81 Delicious Savory Low-Carb Vegetarian Recipes

A question people often ask is whether it is possible to follow a keto diet if you don't eat meat. I'm not a vegetarian but I know that it may be challenging to get enough protein without overeating foods like cheese or nuts. Although these foods are relatively low in carbs, they are calorie dense, easy to overeat and can be the reason for weight stalling. That's why I included a large variety of delicious recipes in this recipe roundup: breakfast meals, lunch and dinner ideas, soups, salads, sides and appetisers. Since desserts are naturally vegetarian, I didn't include them in this roundup. You can find even more vegetarian recipes in the KetoDiet App and the KetoDiet Cookbook.

While it's relatively easy to follow a vegetarian or pescatarian keto diet, it is nearly impossible to follow a vegan keto diet, at least not without taking supplements. If you'd like to why you should include at least some animal products, have a look at my post here: Ketogenic Diet FAQ: Can Vegetarians or Vegans do Ketogenic Diet?

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

I’m a picky vegetarian and was looking into your 2 week plan. I rarely do eggs so the smoothies with raw eggs or egg powder wouldn’t be an option for me. I could pretty much do everything else on the meal plan but open to suggestions for the smoothie. Currently I make smoothies all the time w fresh fruits ( banana, strawberries, mango, oranges, grapes, anything I have in the house) and almond milk. The only reason I’m not vegan is because I love cheese too much and the “cheeseless” cheese doesn’t donit for me.
Thanks for the suggestions!!

Hi T, you could use some of the suggested alternatives in the smoothies. So in this case you can try 1-2 tbsp coconut butter or almond butter, or even chia seeds. This will have an effect on the nutrition facts as the protein content will be much lower. To boost the protein content, you could use whey protein powder instead. I hope this helps!

Thank you for this article of recipes.  I do eat meats but am tired of the high cost of them and had been looking for other protein/veggie recipes instead

This is a wonderful post because this recipe has everything which makes a food delightful. I am going to make this recipe for dinner. I will share how it taste.

The recipes look tasty, but I'm not seeing much protein except from eggs and cheese.

Hi Westy, there is not much more to choose from on a vegetarian keto/primal or paleo diet. In addition to eggs and cheese, you can use whey or egg white protein powder.

Martina this post is amazing! Thank you so much for thinking about your vegetarian followers like me. Definitely going to refer to this post often!

You're welcome! I'll have a vegetarian & keto e-book (diet plan) available to download very soon (see ketodietebooks.com/) 😊

You have put in a lot of work and many thanks for doing so. It is such a great resource for people like me. Wanted to know if the recipes on this page could be substituted for some of those on the 2 Week vegetarian Keto plan. I would prefer some variety and am not averse to cooking new stuff!

Yes, I think you could do that - or if you go to "Recipes" on my blog and filter for "vegetarian", you will find even more 😊

What a great round-up of tasty vegetarian recipes!  Thanks for including my recipe, and fun to see so many familiar blogs.

You're welcome Kalyn! I love your blog - it's full of delicious low-carb recipes!

Gorgeous! Thanks for including my Squash Blossom recipe!

You're welcome Judy! That recipe is amazing - I tried it when I was in Greece 😊
