Hi Friends, I have great news for you!

After several months in development and beta testing, a new update of KetoDiet & KetoDiet Basic for iOS (iPhone/ iPad) has been released. Make sure you have the latest version by launching App Store and switching to the Updates tab.

Although this is an iOS only update, we've been working on Android and will release an update in the next few weeks.

What's New?

New tracking features

Your daily view is now expanded into different tabs where you can track your meals, water intake, body stats, readings and more. We have improved the Planner overview to give you a summary of your planned days at a glance.

Ingredients enhancements

The ingredient list has been changed to display net carbs 'per amount' (i.e. as defined) rather than the normalised 'per 100 grams' value. Displaying the normalised value has caused some confusion amongst users so we decided to change it.

Additionally, when viewing the nutritional data of an ingredient, you can now change the reference amount. In other words, you can quickly switch between 1 cup, 100 grams, 1 tbsp etc.

Adding multiple ingredients to the Planner

When adding a single ingredient to your day (Quick Meal or scanning the barcode) you'll be asked if you want to repeat and add another one. This reduces the number of steps required to add multiple ingredients to your day. Using single ingredients rather than meals is a pattern we often see and many users prefer to do that.

Improved progress charts

Every chart now includes a legend that offers a direct way to edit or add new data points directly from Progress. This of course applies to data items that you can input directly and not data that is calculated, i.e. net carb limit, body stats, readings, mood, energy and water.

New how-to guide

Based on several requests, we created a new online guide on how to use the KetoDiet app. You can find it under Help > How to use KetoDiet. This guide will be updated as new features are added. Although it is focused on iOS, most of it also applies to Android as well.

New unit settings

With new tracking features for ketone, blood glucose and lipids, we have expanded our settings to provide a wider selection of measurement units. Additionally, you can now change units directly from Progress and from any keyboard that allows you to enter data in multiple units.

Improved date picker (calendar view)

We re-designed our date picker (calendar) to make it easier to select dates and date ranges. We now highlight days that have data including meals, body stats, etc.

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

if Your daily calorie intake is 1,100 calories and you workout and burn 400 calories are you suppose to eat an additional 400 calories that day?  If so, is there a way to add that to the app so it recalculates your protein, fat and carb percentages?

Hi Leslie, activity level is already accounted for in our app. You can set it in the Profile tab. Adding exercise again and deducting calories from a particular day would result in inaccurate results as they would essentially be deducted twice. There are apps that allow users to specify both average activity levels (average activity over time which can change) and calories burnt during exercise on a given day but that is wrong. You can read more about how macros are calculated here: KetoDiet Buddy - Easy Macro Calculator for the Ketogenic Diet I hope this helps.

Hi, we live in the UK (now - ex USA), & struggle with converting units.  Which units are changed when you choose different units (metric, USA, Imperial)?
Our difficulty arises mainly with ‘volume’ type ingredients (like milk?) when only options given are grams and oz (no cups, teaspoons, millilitres).  Are those oz, fluid ounces or weight ounces?  US or UK (Imperial).
I haven’t (yet) found a blog which discusses this aspect of the app.
This is making it difficult and time-consuming having to look up conversions (normally to grams, which appear to be quite standard).
Any help/comments greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Martin, thank you for buying our app! We follow standard guidelines for metric, US customary and imperial units. When it comes to ingredients, if you only find "grams" or "ounces" they refer to weights (not to volume). All ingredients always include gram and ounce values based on which nutrition facts are calculated in all foods.
Please, keep in mind that we don't always have control over what is included in the database or which units are shown. There are hundreds of thousands of foods in our food database (we use a combination of third party databases). All about our food database (beyond barcode scanning) is explained in this post: Barcode Scanning and Food Database in the KetoDiet App
What we plan to do is to add custom measurement options (e.g. when creating custom meals you'll be able to specify values per cup, slice, tablespoon, etc). For any support-related questions and a speedy reply it's best to contact us directly via the app under Help.
I hope this helps!

I purchased keto basic for android. I cannot figure out how to add custom recipes. I cannot figure out if the bar code scanner is suppose to work, it does not.  Is their a video or instructions that is up to date that will show me how to navigate the app, explictly the android version? Too many versions and references to things that do not work in the android version. It is frustrating and time consuming to try to figure out. I search the blog and find info but most post are dated last year or older, then in the post it will say that a feature is coming in Sept with no year stated. I am left feeling like I purchased a old version. Need a video on how to do everything the app can do. Need all dates to have years.

Hi Sherry, thank you for buying our app! There is a step-by-step guide in Help > How to use KetoDiet. We don't currently have a video tutorial but it is an online guide. Making a video tutorial for an app that changes very frequently (new updates and new features) is challenging as we would have to update those video every 1-2 months. Lastly, please, keep in mind that the features listed in this post have not yet all been applied to Android (only iOS) - it is a different platform and takes more time.
Please, make sure to contact our Support directly via the app. It is best for several reasons:
- we will be able to reply quickly (blog comments may take days)
- we can use screenshots in order to help with any issues/queries
I hope this helps!

Is there a ketone tester that will work with the app and/or apple health kit?

Hi Scott, you can enter any data measured by a blood ketone meter, breath ketone meter, or urine ketone meter but you can only do it manually. Apple Health Kit support is in our to-do list.

Brilliant updates! Please allow weekly meal plans as well. I am cooking the same 5 meals for the entire week, and tracking it is more difficult now that the cooking itself😁. If you would have a "clone the meal for the following x days" option,i could do the whole week tracking with only one day input. This feature would help everyone who is meal prepping for a longer period of time. Aside from that, the app is brilliant, theres nothing i miss in it. European restaurant chains perhaps...

Thank you Szilvia, that is a fantastic suggestion! We will add this option to copy & paste to multiple days in one of the upcoming updates.
When it comes to restaurants, we are planning to add more restaurant chains in the near future but it takes time as we are building our own database. I wish that all nutrition facts published by restaurants had a uniform format - that would make things a lot easier.

i purchased your app full price and the recipes are locked.. ?

Hello Lorraine, the vast majority of recipes in our app are free. Our fully featured KetoDiet app does contain a few recipes in in-app packages but they are optional. There are 96 recipes in the Starter pack and over 600 recipes in KetoDiet Blog section. All our recipes are fully integrated in the app (can be added to the Planner/ modified/ cloned with a single tap) and new recipes are added almost on a daily basis. Only a small part of the recipes is included in in-app recipe packages (less than 200 recipes). You can find more information:
- on the primary App Store/ Google Play screenshot
- in the App Store/ Google Play description
- on our website & blog

If you give it a chance and go through it youll see that there are many free recipes and they are adding new every day. I think it's a great value for money! I don't know of any app that does that.

Omg! That’s such an upgrade! I know you’ve been working on it and constantly improving but that’s so great. Thanks for all it do.

Thank you Aloy!

Martina and Team,
Wow! I downloaded the updated app as soon as it was available and have been test-driving the new features the last couple of days. Thank you for adding these must-anticipated and extremely helpful features. I'm thrilled I can now track glucose, ketones and water. I love the new progress features, too.  And it's great news that integration with Apple HealthKit is a high priority - I can hardly wait for more of my data to be in one place as well as the ability to export data for further analysis.  Kudos to all of you and immense thanks for all of the continued amazing work!

Aimee, thank you for your kind words and thank you so much for helping us beta test the app before release!

I started Keto on Jan 15th, and this is BY FAR the best app that I've come across. That being said, the tracking of food is really confusing for me. I've been searching for an app that combined water tracking, weight tracking, and food tracking, so I was sooo excited and immediately paid for that app. I think that it would be nice to have food planning and food tracking separate, or make it a little easier to go through. I really liked the tracking food aspect of My Fitness Pal and the Keto App, but I'm kinda confused by how yours works. Also I meal prep and put my prepped meals into customer meals, but some days I don't eat certain foods from those meals and I don't want to go in and change the whole meal for one day so I get inaccurate counts because I can't remove just one item like I can on other apps (I prefer my tracking to be broken down into ingredient counts, not just as a set meal)

Thank you for your feedback, Tori! Our aim is to keep the app as simple as possible but the more features an app has, the more challenging it gets to achieve that.
In simple terms, the way you track (or plan) your food in KetoDiet is by adding meals, ingredients, etc to your day. It could be in the past or in the future - this is up to you and how you prefer to use the app.
To quickly edit a Custom Meal in KetoDiet, you clone it and modify it (top right option in any custom meal). If you have meals that you change a lot, then it's better if you add the ingredients directly fo your day using the "Quick" option or the "Recently Added" option. You can then quickly copy from day to day and add/remove/edit any ingredients as needed.
We have many plans to improve the app and add new features and we plan to add a detailed breakdown of nutritional data per ingredient. However, this will not be the primary Planner view as it would be way too crowded. This would be a detailed view used for troubleshooting when planning your meals.
I know that with any app it takes time to get used to, especially if you were used to another app. There is an online guide under Help > How to use KetoDiet. I hope this helps!

I opened the app today and was so excited to see blood glucose tracking! Being a T1 diabetic, this makes a huge difference and I no longer need to use other apps to track this separately. Thank you so so so much for everything. I've been using your app for the last 3 years and love it  even more with every update. Keep up the good work!

Fantastic update features today! I am so excited to see water, ketone and blood glucose measurements added... I couldn’t move my fingers fast enough to hit ‘update’. I now eagerly await the upcoming features mentioned, and encourage you to expedite the sync with Apple HealthKit 😊. I also wondered if there is any way you would consider adding the ability to track Total Carbs instead of Net Carbs in our profile settings? I personally prefer to do this and find I get better results. Thanks so much for all the work that goes in to KetoDiet App. I truly love it and have recommended it to so many people. This app helped me win my first bodybuilding competition!

Thank you Theresa! Apple Health Kit is on our hot list as it will also enable data export which is a very popular request. When it comes to total carbs, we'd like to include it too but it is fairly complicated to change that (add this option) and will require some extra work in terms of coding. However, we are not afraid of challenges! 😊

I updated the app this morning on both my iPhone and iPad. Now I cannot open either. The Keto Diet App screen comes up then goes back to my home screen. I did reboot both devices and the app still does not stay on.

I'm sorry to hear that, Cheri. We haven't come across such issues during beta testing. Could you please send us an email at support@ketodietapp.com? If there is any additional information you could provide, please don't forget to include it. We'll get back to you asap! Thank you, Martina.

I was extatic when I opened the app this morning to find all the great updates with tracking water and mood and ketone/glucose levels. Amazing job!!!! It really is helpful to have it all in one place. I'm deleting the other 3 apps I was using to track those other values. Yippee😀

Thank you Lisa, I appreciate your kind words! I can't wait for the next major update (Android first though) 😊
