KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic Update (April 2017)ShareFollow us 261.1k

Hi Friends,

We've been busy working on KetoDiet and we have yet another update available to download! Here's what's new.

Welcome Screen

We created a welcome screen to serve two purposes:

  1. To highlight the main features of the app (see screenshot above).
  2. To clarify what's included and what's optional in our app. We can see that from the AppStore reviews some people are confused about how much content is included in the app without requiring any optional purchases.

There's almost 100 recipes included in the Starter package, and there's over 450 recipes provided via our integrated blog (more recipes are added every few days).

How is KetoDiet different from other Apps?

  • We create all our content and recipes exclusively for our app. We don't scrape recipes from the web.
  • We have deep integration for all our recipes so they can be added to the Planner, their serving size can be adjusted, ingredients can be added to the basket, etc. (available for iOS, Android coming soon)
  • We continuously provide free recipes and articles via our integrated blog. I cannot emphasise enough how much time and effort it takes to create them - and we provide them for free.
  • Since we released KetoDiet in 2012, we have been working on frequent and continuous updates, improving and adding new features driven by your feedback.

New Support Portal

We have created a support portal to make it easier for our users to find answers to common questions. You can find in Help > Support.

Recently Added Meals

Recently added meals can be now found in the Planner so you can quickly add meals you use most recently (screenshot below).

New Measurements Added

We added liquid measurements to ingredients measured in cups, tbsp or fl oz: millilitres - ml, decilitres - dl, and fluid ounces - fl oz (screenshot below).

  • Major performance improvements
  • Improved memory utilisation
  • Several bug fixes

If you find our Apps useful, please, leave a review on the AppStore/ Google Play. It only takes a minute and it's the best thing you can do to support us. Thank you!

What's Next?

Next updates (April-May 2017)

  • New KetoDiet App guide - our online tutorial on how to use our app.
  • Enhance warnings/stats for meeting macronutrient targets
  • Universal search across all recipes when adding them to the Planner (blog meals, KetoDiet meals, custom meals, etc)
  • Multi-user account support with data sync and fast user switching. This feature will be free for the first account. Any additional accounts will be available to buy for $0.99 USD per month to cover the cost of processing and storing the additional data on our servers.

Upcoming updates in 2017

  • Barcode scanning. We strive for quality, not quantity. Accuracy is our key priority and unlike all other apps, we won't be using a crowdsourced database - we will use a verified database.
  • Adding new restaurant chains to our database to quickly find keto-friendly options when eating out
  • Adding new meals into the Starter pack and existing optional recipe packages (once you get any package, any recipes added in the future are always free!)
  • Data export, especially progress stats
  • Copy & paste planner meals for quick planning
  • Apple Watch support
  • Activity tracking & Health App integration
  • Ketone tracking, glucose tracking, and more tracking options
  • Integration with KetoDiet meal plans (free and premium 7-day, 14-day and 28-day diet plans directly in the Planner with just one click)
  • KetoDiet Challenges & community integration
  • Add recipe user notes in custom meals so that you have all you need to make your favourite recipe
  • Adding "favorites" to the Planner so you can quickly add frequently used meals. This feature may be added depending on user feedback. We just included a new feature for Recently added meals which works in a similar way.
  • New recipe packages - requested by users (American Favorites, Vegetarian Recipes, Easy & Simple 2nd Edition and Keto Treats)

The features are driven by your feedback! Feel free to leave a comment if you have anything else you would like us to add and if it's something we can do, we'll do our best to implement it in future updates.

How About Android?

We've been working on the fully featured KetoDiet Android app and we expect to release it in mid 2017. As with all software, it's very hard to give precise estimates and KetoDiet is a fairly complex app.

We should be able to start beta-testing in the next few months and will notify everyone who's included. If you wish to be included, please, send us an e-mail via this form - leaving a comment below won't work, you need to send us an e-mail.

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

Hi, I would love to have myfitnesspal integrating with the ketodietapp. I prefer how macros are added in you app, but living in Spain, MFP has a wider selection of products and restaurant meals from my country. I prefer to track meals in MFP, but I would like to have the ability to track the macros in your app. Or at least to have the ability to add them manually, not just via meals. I also love how you track goals (weight and measurements).
I love your recipes and love the app.

Thank you Ana, I appreciate your feedback! I'm afraid that integration with third party apps won't be possible for several reasons. Instead, we will keep improving our app and expand the database in every update. Such an integration wouldn't benefit us but also our users - I'll explain why:
I understand that there seems to be an advantage of using a large database of foods (such as the one in MFP) but it comes at a cost. Most apps use inaccurate data that is obtained via crowdsourcing (non-verified data from users).
Our number one priority is accuracy - for this reason we only use verified data. Our database contains tens of thousands of basic ingredients, and we will soon add a new barcode scanning feature together with a newly available verified database of brand foods and restaurants (it was released a few months ago).

A few features that would be great:
1. Ability to set specific meal times via settings rather than defaulting to the preset times. I know you can change the meal times with each ingredient, but that's cumbersome when you are adding various items.
2. Ability to set daily calories manually when setting macros manually. I can't seem to be able to change the daily calories when I've set my own custom macros.
3. A food list similar to that of Lose it! Or My Fitness Pal. Currently, I have to add prepackaged items as custom ingredients each time I use them.
4. A place to track exercises and calories burned.
5. A favorites sections, where all my blog, app, and personal favorite meals are easily accessed.
6. A numeric visual letting me know how many grams I am /under over my macros.
7. Ability to sort restaurant meals from lowest carb count to highest carb count.
Overall, I absolutely love the app. I love having your blog and app recipes to draw from. The information on Keto is awesome. The interface is beautiful and intuitive.
Thank you
Soccy

Thank you for your feedback Soccy! And thank you for your kind words!
1. I'm not sure I understand this right - would you like to set times for breakfast, lunch, dinner so that they default to your preferred times?
2. You can use the "custom" setting in the Profile which gives you several options for setting your calories (setting your fat intake). This will basically give you the freedom to adjust your calories to what you prefer.
3. I agree we need to expand our database to include branded foods. However, our priority is accuracy and that's why we don't use crowdsourcing to collect user data and grow our food database like most apps do. We only use verified sources. We will add barcode scanning later this year (the first verified database for branded products will soon become available). Apps that currently use barcode scanning rely on crowdsourcing which we want to avoid.
4. We do plan to integrate exercise tracking in future updates.
5. We currently have "favorites" in the Meals tab and in the Blog tab, and we plan to add it in the Custom Meals tab too. Adding an aggregate "Favorite" tab could be an option - I'll discuss that with my partner.
6. There's a detailed overview in each day. If you go in the Planner > tap on the day > tap on Details, you can see how your intake compares to your target. You're right that a warning system in the Planner overview will be better (currently warning only about Net carbs but this will change soon).
7. The meals are arranged by alphabetical order in the restaurant overviews. However, when you search in any restaurant, or in the main overview, all meals are arranged by carbs.  We may add different filtering options in future updates.
As always, we have to consider the benefits of additional features and how they will affect the complexity of the app (more features always add complexity so we have to be selective and only add what most people want to see). Thanks again for your feedback, we really appreciate it! 😊

Looks like a great app. Look forward to seeing it on Android.
