KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic Update (May 2018)ShareFollow us 261.1k

Hi keto friends, I have some exciting news for you!

The next update of KetoDiet & KetoDiet Basic has been released. Make sure you have the latest version by launching App Store and switching to the Updates tab (or Google Play under the My Apps section).

Your Feedback Matters

Before I get to what's new, I want to thank you all for the amazing support! Your support enables us to keep working on our app and making it the best we can. We are working hard on yet another update that will bring even more free recipes, features and improvements - all driven by your feedback. Please, keep it coming!

If you find our App or my books useful and want to help us take KetoDiet to the next level, please, leave a review on the AppStore/ Google Play/ Amazon. It's the best way to support us. Thank you!

Free Keto Recipes... Forever

In the next update we decided to simplify our pricing and include all optional recipe packages - free forever. We hope you will love the extra recipes you will soon see under the KetoDiet Meals section in our app!

Our app now includes:

  • Access to all 300 recipes in the KetoDiet Meals section (even more coming soon)
  • Over 650 recipes in the KetoDiet Blog section - all are fully integrated in our app (with more recipes added daily)

That is almost 1,000 keto recipes included in our app!

KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic Update (May 2018)

What is the motivation behind our new pricing approach?

Reducing the volume of support e-mails

Most of our support tickets are related to unlocking recipe packages. Due to the way iOS updates work, every now and then users have to restore in-apps in order to fetch fresh purchase receipts from the App Store. This applies to all apps but creates a significant support overhead for us and frustration for the users that assume it's an issue with the app.

Simplifying pricing

For several years we offered optional recipe packages as a way of covering our expenses for continuously creating new content for our users. The truth is, people prefer a simple flat price upfront even if it's higher, so we decided to do just that.

For the reasons above, here's how the pricing of our app will change in the next few days. This will have no effect on existing users. All updates are and will always be free.

Our new pricing for the KetoDiet App

  • KetoDiet (iPhone, iPad). The new price is $8.99 USD
  • KetoDiet Basic (iPhone, iPad). The new price is $3.99 USD
  • KetoDiet (Android). The new price will remain $6.99 USD until we bring feature parity for KetoDiet on Android (see What's next? below for more details)
  • KetoDiet Basic (Android). The new price is $3.99 USD

Note: To enable all advanced features in KetoDiet Basic, users still have to make a one-off purchase of $5.99 USD on iOS and $3.99 USD on Android. You can enable advances features in KetoDiet Basic under Settings - do not purchase KetoDiet separately as these are two different apps.

No Subscription and No Hidden Costs!

We never had subscription fees or any other recurrent payments for our app. That has not changed. You only pay once - that's it!

Additionally, in the new update we improved our existing recipes by optimising and simplifying recipe steps, adding brand new recipe photos and new cooking tips.

Expert Articles to Help You Stay Informed

We work with a number of renowned experts to provide weekly articles discussing the recent research and providing guides to help you follow the ketogenic lifestyle. You can find all expert articles under KetoDiet Blog > Articles.

KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic Update (May 2018)

Frequent Updates

Since the release of KetoDiet in 2012, we have continuously been working on new recipes and features in order to create the best and most complete low-carb app.

Here are some of the highlights of what we've done so far

  • Built-in macronutrient calculator.
  • Advanced planning and tracking.
  • Hundreds of thousands of foods included in the KetoDiet food database.
  • Barcode scanning for easy tracking. We strive for quality, not quantity. (Read more to learn why our food database is more accurate and reliable).
  • Browsing through tens of thousands of restaurant meals to find keto-friendly options when eating out.
  • Complete and thorough KetoDiet guide.
  • Shopping basket so you can easily get the groceries you need.
  • And more! Full list of supported features can be found here.

What's next?

Here's an overview of the most popular requests. Please note that software development takes time. We release new updates and add new features as often as we can.

  • Working the new features for the Android platform (Data Sync across device, daily Planner notes, water intake, mood & energy tracking, ketone, blood glucose & lipids tracking).
  • Improving existing features.
  • Unify KetoDiet Meals with KetoDiet blog meals so that any filtering can be applied universally.
  • Allergy filtering options.
  • Apple HealthKit & Watch support.
  • Custom Ingredients: adding custom serving sizes and being able to specify values per slice, tablespoon, cup, etc.
  • Enable cloning & editing KetoDiet Meals.
  • Add option for recipe notes in custom meals so that you have all you need to make your favourite recipe (instructions, cooking time etc.)
  • Universal search across all recipes, meals and ingredients when adding them to the Planner.
  • Basket: improvements when adding meals from the Planner so they always list minimum amounts required to make a recipe, even if you only eat one serving in a given period of time.
  • Integration with KetoDiet diet plans: my free and premium keto diet plans with just one click.
  • KetoDiet Challenges & community integration.
  • More tracking options including advanced health markers.
  • Activity tracking. Note that you should not track your activity to "burn" calories but rather for health reasons (calories should not be deducted twice from your target macros - activity is already accounted for in your recommended macros in the Profile section).
  • Add nutrition facts to hundreds of recipes included in my cookbooks so you can quickly add them to the Planner
  • and more features can be found here

Features are driven by your feedback! Feel free to leave a comment if you have anything else you would like us to add and if it's something we can do, we'll do our best to implement it in future updates.

KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic Update (May 2018)

KetoDiet: The Most Complete Keto App

With every update we bring new features and we constantly update our content.

Beware of imitation apps confusing users by copying our name, using our established social media hashtags, buying fake App reviews (which are easy to spot as they are repetitive and very generic) and using confusing pricing to charge users monthly. The #1 complaint is about cancelling subscriptions for other app(s) not related to ours.

Our app is more than just a basic keto diet tracker and here's why

  • Our content in terms of recipes, guides, nutritional advice, expert articles etc. is second to none. No other app comes close to what we provide to support our users and help them make the right choices.
  • We offer additional advice and support via our Facebook Support Group.
  • We run free KetoDiet Challenges to motivate and support users on their keto journey and share their experiences in our exclusive community. Full integration with the KetoDiet App is in our to-do list.
  • Running one of the most popular low-carb blogs and being actively involved in the keto community really helps us understand how to best help people achieve their goals.

Thank you again for your support - please, don't forget to leave a review!

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

Hello folks! thanks for a great app!
I noticed above that you’ve said the ability to add cooking instructions to custom meals is in the works.. please hurry up!!
I cooked a recipe tonight that I found elsewhere and adapted, and in order to cook it I had to have the ketodiet app open on my phone so I could see my ingredients and measurements, and the source website open on my iPad so I could see the cooking method.  My kitchen bench is not big enough for that kind of nonsense!!

Thank you Susan, we are doing our best, I am fully aware of how important it is to add this feature! It's so much work to add all of the features but I can tell you that this is on top of our list. We are now working on a much bigger addition but once it's done we will fine-tune these features. Thank you!

In May 2017 you mentioned that you were planning to add “Sharing custom meals between users” as a feature.  Have you done this yet?  I can’t find anything about it.

Hi Julia, we have been considering this feature for a while now. It will be part of a much bigger update that is necessary for this feature to work correctly and there's a lot of coding needed. We are doing our best to submit the next app update! 😊

I love what the app. does. But here's the significant flaw(s) for me:
1) no ability to add a second user into the same application. I see this mentioned on your web update in late 2017 as a planned feature for the spring 2018 update, but I guess it didn't make the cut, or doesn't fit your business model. Unfortunately this is a huge issue as I need to plan foods and track intake for both myself and my husband, and we only have 1 iPad; I really don't want to be managing data (esp. adding recipes) via my tiny phone screen.
2) Why is there no desktop version? My eyesight is not great, and being able to use the desktop to input recipes and meals would be a HUGE benefit -- not to mention using the keyboard rather than a touch screen.
Please do let me know if either of these features are planned for the near future. I'm investigating other apps but I really like your interface and would like to make it our primary tool. Thanks!

Thank you for your feedback, Andrea. And thank you so much for using our app! As for the 2 points:
1) Yes, that was our initial plan but the introduction of GDPR significantly complicated things on our side. Although most of the work is done, we will not release an update with multi-user feature until we are satisfied that we comply with all regulations.
2) Developing different versions of the app for various platforms is a highly expensive and time consuming process. From the start the KetoDiet app was mobile only. A mobile app is radically different to a desktop app - it's not the case of making an app "available" on the desktop, it is in fact a whole new project that is both time consuming and very expensive. What we learned since we started is that:
- Software development takes months and even seemingly simple features may be hard to implement.
- The nature of the app market doesn't give developers many options in terms of development (it's a race to the bottom when it comes to pricing: https://www.cultofmac.com/262310/race-bottom-1-app-10000-will-financial-success-2018/). Apps require a significant investment but the returns are not always able to cover the costs. This means we have to be extra careful when implementing changes or developing new features. As much as we would love to add all of the listed features, we have to make compromises and focus on high-priority tasks first to make this business successful.
- Many apps rely on third party services that have proven to be a significant overhead for developers when these services don't work (it happens from time to time) or may even result in users losing their data. We learnt that the hard way in another project. Although these services provide "shortcuts", we don't want to use such unreliable ways which means we have to do more work on our side and develop our own reliable sources.
Having said that, yes, one of the above options will be done in the near future and we will do our best to release it as soon as we can!

After not using the app for a while, I am rediscovering all your wonderful updates! Thank you for including all the recipes, and thank you for one price and not requiring a subscription. The recipes and articles are fantastic! I really appreciate all the hard work you have put into this.
Something I would like to see in the Progress section is tracking Blood Pressure and Heart Rate.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Janice! That's a great suggestion and we'll add it to the list of additional tracking options.

Hi,
I am still having trouble upgrading my ketodiet app. I have the basic *and* the Ketodiet app. It states above to go to my googleplay, then "my apps" and upgrade there, but I can't see it on there, or any other places I have apps. It says it is in my "Library Cloud", but I have no idea what that means. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but that didn't make a difference.
Perhaps I have the upgrade already? The version I have is 1.11.0.
Thank you.

Yeah I thought I had your app installed it was called KetoDiet too and they had subscription. Hated that keto tracker app and tried to cancel but they never replied to any on my emails.

Please add more Canadian foods and restaurants.

Hi Sandi, we are limited by the available options in third party food databases. The only issue with same of them is accuracy and we exclude foods that are clearly incorrect. Please, read more about barcode scanning and our food database in this post: Barcode Scanning and Food Database in the KetoDiet App
More restaurant foods will be added in future updates. I hope this helps!

Fantastic! Your picture popped up when I looked up the word "generosity".
I wish you would add an option to increase the font size in the app; website font also tiny on my iPhone (no matter the browser I use).

Hi Daniel, thank you for your feedback. Could you please sent me a screenshot at support@KetoDietApp.com so I can have a look? You can enlarge the font size for certain views in the app via: [iPhone] Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger Text. Thanks, Nikos.

This is a great little app I do have an improvement suggestion when I review my Macros if I’ve overdone the carbs or the protein it’s not easy for me to find out where is best to cut back.  I’ve seen other trackers which also listed the things I ate by macro content so at a glance I can see that say peanuts were my biggest carb item or that most of my protein I take was from the over large steak I ate earlier.

Thank you Helen, that's a great suggestion. We will look into this!

Thank you so much this is fantastic news! So appreciated!!

Thank you John!

I have a challenge for YOU--I ran across this article with a recipe for a "full English casserole" in honor of the royal wedding.  Challenge:  remake this recipe so we Ketonians can eat it.
https://skillet.lifehacker.com/celebrate-the-royal-wedding-with-this-full-english-cass-1826123222
I'll be working on it too.  I'm interested to see who comes up with what!

Challenge accepted 😊 Although you will likely do it first as we are busy working on the next update!

I don’t usually leave comments and this must be the first time I leave one on your blog. I just wanted to say thank you! I love what you do and I love all the recipes I now have. I can’t wait to try so many of them! Thank you! 🙏

Thank you Inna!

Thank you so much for this app! I was one of thoise people. Found the other keto diet tracker on instagram tagged as #ketodietapp and thought it was yours. I saw thousands of reviews but didn't read them so I though it must be your app. When I installed as "KetoDiet" I had no reason do doubt it. Needless to say I was disappointed when after adding just a few items in the planner they asked for monthly payments. No recipes, poor info about keto and some ingredients were completely wrong. I'm glad I found the right app after all!

Thank you Emily! This is what the people complain about in the support e-mails.  It is very frustrating for those who download this app expecting something else and and for us too (we even have a pre-written email to reply to these complaints).

This was a smart move Martina.  Your app is now streets ahead of the others I've seen.

Thank you Tel!

Just the best app ever.  Makes it easier to keep up with your macros and your grams. Most other apps don't give both. Thank you for continuing to improve your app and make it easier to negotiate  when it's already the BEST app there is. #ketomadeeasy

Thank you so much Christi!

So excited by this update. Thank you for all you do to make this such a wonderful app. Your recipes are amazing and your passion and knowledge is an inspiration. Thanks so much. Jo 😘

Thank you Jo!

Thank you so much for your generosity!!

I hope you enjoy the new recipes! 😊

Omg thank you, I love your app 🤗🤗☺️☺️

Thank you for your kind words!

THANK YOU! I appreciate all you do and share! I had 2 of the recipe packages and now I have all of them. **feeling grateful**
