KetoDiet 7-Minute Video Tutorial

As some of you may have known, we have been working on a short tutorial video to show you some of the features of KetoDiet!

First of all, I'd like to thank my good friend Gwyn and the very talented Hannah, without whom we wouldn't have this tutorial!

Update: The video is no longer available. A new version of KetoDiet for the iPhone, iPad and Android is out. Find out more on our website.

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

I have just purchased this app after numerous searches for the right one and this is amazing! The only thing I am confused about is when it gives you your macros am not sure exactly what my target is? I try to keep under 20 grams of carbs but the % of everything else confuses me. How much am I supposed to eat % wise of protein, calories, fat etc? Or is it all about the carbs? Or have I missed an important part of the guide? Thanks for your time x

Hi Audrey, thank you for buying my app and for your kind words!
It's always better to use grams for following your macros. Macronutrient percentages will give you a good idea of the meal composition (how "ketogenic" a meal is) but they are only relative - always go by the grams. You can check your macros here: KetoDiet Buddy - Easy Macro Calculator for the Ketogenic Diet

I am using this diet to fight Cancer. I have very specific targets. Is there a way to enter my own targets for fat grams, carbs, protein, and total calories for my day?

Thank you for buying my app, Cindy! You can determine carbs, but other macronutrients are fixed or undetermined: protein is automatically calculated from the data you enter - and fat is eaten to satiety.
I understand it may be really useful (or is even necessary if used for therapeutic purposes) and we will add an option for entering macronutrient targets in the near future. We're currently working on a universal app that will also allow planning and tracking on the iPhone. Once this is done, we will add more features.

Wow. Wish I'd have thought of an app like this. 😊 excellent. Thank you.
Future features like being able to enter kcal to kj (we have kcal and kj and sometimes only one on our labels in Auz and it gets confusing)
Also maybe advise of the deadly sodium, potassium, magnesium intake, I tested it out the other day and put in my diary that I ate 1000 ounces of salt (we use liters (liter to ounce conversion?)) and my tables adjusted accordingly showing eg. 98947484748% RDA. it would be nice to have an upper limit of these values so I don't accidentally kill myself ;). You could argue who is that stupid.... But desperate times desperate measures. I am concerned I'm getting too much salt at 300% RDA. However aren't we supposed to increase salt consumption on keto or at least keto induction anyway?
Very impressed so far ....

Thank you so much Dreg, I really appreciate that! Yes, I totally agree - we are working on a universal app and will add many more features after it's out (there is an overview with a few examples at the end of this post:KetoDiet App FAQ).
I think that must have been some mistake - I don't believe you would be able to eat so much salt - it was definitely a miscalculation. By default all ingredients are listed in grams and then converted to ounces/ kilos/ pounds that are included in the database we are using. Volume values like litres or cups are indirect and vary for all ingredients (e.g. a litre of water has a different weight than a litre of yogurt). The only way to add values in litres would be to do it separately for all ingredients that don't contain this information. We will do that at some point but it will take time, as it's thousands of ingredients.
During the induction phase of the ketogenic diet, you should be eating 3000-5000 mg more sodium (additionally to what is naturally occuring in food). That's why you will go over the RDA which is fine. Here's more info: Keto-Flu and Sufficient Intake of Electrolytes
I hope this helps. Thank you for your support!

Thank you very much for the tremendous effort you have put into this app !  I can only imagine the enormity of it because I am very ignorant of how these wonderful gadgets are made and the programs that go on them. The amount of different things we can do on here to aid our journey is astonishing ,very helpful, and fun. The program is very colourful and pretty and the tutorial is greatly appreciated. To have all the information we need at our fingertips is such a blessing. A 10 out of 10 just doesn't seem good enough.

Thank you so much Alison, I really appreciate you kind words! We will keep improving it and add several more features in 2016. Thank you for helping us making this happen!

I love this app. I have used many apps to assist in my keto jouney and this one is above and beyond anything else available. I wanted this app so bad that I actually purchased tan IPad. This is even more crazy than it sound, as I only own android devices.  I said I would never buy an Apple anything. I just couldn't wait for you to have the android version available. This app is the final thing I need to make my eating plans successful   Thank you.
P.S.  do love the IPAD

Thank you, I really appreciate that!!! You made my day Trish!!

This looks amazing! I have been following your 7 day plan this week and I feel amazing.
Have you plans to bring your app out for android phones?
If so when?  I would be super keen to purchase!

Hi Sarah (sorry for the late reply - I didn't see the comment!) Yes, we have plans for android too. Here are some details: KetoDiet App FAQ

How do I change my carb, protein and fat targets?

Hi Cheryl (sorry for the late reply - I didn't see the comment!) You can change your carb target (Planner -> Edit -> tap on the green pen tool to change what you need and tap "save"). Your protein target is calculated based on your lean mass and will give you a range that depends on your activity level. Lastly, fat is eaten to satiety. Hope this helps 😊

Is this app available for android?

Hi Ellie, we don't currently support Android or Windows but we do have plans to bring KetoDiet to more platforms this year. I will keep you updated on my Facebook profile and also make a blog post when it's done.

This is the best app for paleo, keto, low-carb or whatever healthy diet! Thanks so much for all your hard work.

Thanks so much Jully! I really appreciate your words ! We are working hard to make it the best diet app and always listen to all feedback we get.

I have more then 10 apps on my ipad about kegenic diet but this app is the best one.
congratulations!

Thank  you Elias, I really appreciate that! 😊

OMG is this app real? That's all I was looking for! :-D

After watching this video, I will purchase the app! It seems to make the KetoDiet much easier. FYI- the word tutorial is misspelled right above the link to the video.

Thank you Cammy! I guess that that's what too much work does to you 😊 Thanks for telling me - I'll correct it now. Hope you enjoy using my app - a big update will be coming soon 😉

Hello I just purchased the app and the tutorial on YouTube is very blurry cannot see most of it clear. I'm deaf so I need to rely on visual information.  Please let me know when it will be fixed thanks.

Hi Suzette, sorry about that, it's the compression of that video. We will add more help instructions into the app (currently where you have the quotation mark, there will be an option to see quick help) - this will be done in the upcoming update (about 7-10 days). If you need help with anything, please, send me an e-mail (from the website or app on "contact us") and I will try to help. Thanks!
