I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

Hey! I am looking forward to the challenge but realise I have much to learn about keto still.
I posted on the FB site today and admin told me/us that it wasn't the right forum to interact. But on this I can only find the comment section. Is there any place those who are part of the hallenge can communicate? Get in touch and share experiences/ pics etc?

I just wanted to say I am SO excited about this!! It will be my first challenge ever and I can't think of a better way to kickstart my weight loss than to do it like this. Thanks for the opportunity!!! I'm doing this from Japan, so it'll be interesting with what I can or can't find here,  but I'm ready and willing to give it all I've got!! Going to take my before shot right now... thanks again!!

Do you know what sucks?!... Being a U.S. citizen, living in a foreign country, and not being able to participate in these things due to mailing address!

Laurie, could you, please, explain what you mean by that? Everyone can join, no matter where you are from - I'm not sure why you would think it's US only?

Hi Barbara, you won't need a Facebook account. The registration (sign up) requires just your e-mail and you will need to create a password so you can sign in to the Challenges, take part in discussions, submit your stats, etc. I hope this helps.

Hello, I have been more or less keto since Feb, and it appears that I am not yet fat-adapted. I am very interested in joining, and I am wondering if there will be experts who can help a high raw vegan like me. I went vegetarian 11 years ago, then vegan in 2007. I can never be convinced or persuaded to add animal foods back to my diet. I decided to try the keto diet for the possible neuroprotective benefits.

Hi Char, since the challenge is free, we won't be able to provide experts (health professionals) but we will do our best to help you get through the challenge in our Challenge Community ( I understand your choice but I would personally advice against keto & raw vegan approach because it is severely restrictive. You will be limited to very few foods and it will be hard to stick with the diet. Also, you will likely be deficient in protein and micronutrients (B12, D3 and DHA are common issues): Ketogenic Diet FAQ: All You Need to Know

Hello Martina, thank you so much for your reply. I do take a B12 and vegan (lichen-based D3). As for DHA I eat a lot of vegan omega 3s like greens, seaweed, and seeds like flax and chia.
BTW, I am not fully raw. I can eat some cooked food. Maybe this would help make going keto easier for me?
I use an app to track my macros and I usually exceed my protein requirement, so protein is no issue to me.

If you can get enough protein and take supplements to get all the micronutrients you need, I don't see any reason why you couldn't do it. Yes, not being 100% raw definitely helps as you can include more foods that can only be eaten cooked.
