New Update of KetoDiet & KetoDiet Basic Soon on the AppStore!

Hi everybody,

Another big update of KetoDiet is awaiting for approval at the AppStore! Software development is very complicated and quite unpredictable. It always takes time to add new features, especially when developing a complex application like KetoDiet. As always, most of the features are based on YOUR feedback, so please, keep sending us your suggestions! The new version will be available to download in just a few days. As always, all updates are free. Here are some of the features we've added:

iPhone & iPad

1) 62 New recipes bringing the total number of recipes to 238! Most of the newly added recipes are very low in carbs. 10 recipes are included in the Starter package, 27 recipes added to existing optional packages and 25 recipes in the NEW Easy & simple package. Why Easy & simple? All of these recipes are easy to prepare and require less ingredients. As always, you'll be getting even more free recipes via our integrated blog.

The pricing for optional packages remains the same, with each package (20-30 recipes) for just $0.99. I have also added 3 brand new recipes for low-carb bread, one of which I have included in the Starter package! To see all new recipes, simply type "new" in the search box when you update to the new version. You can find the full list of newly added recipes at the end of this post here. 2) Several recipe adjustments including new fabulous photos and improvements in the Meals section.
3) New simplified print recipe layout to avoid paper wastage. Printed recipes now have more compact form and less paper is needed. 4) Shopping basket can be now shared via e-mail and other means. Apart from printing, you will be able to export your shopping list via e-mail, iMessage, etc! 5) Additions to KetoDiet Guide. Minor additions and updates (e.g. new guide to pesticides for 2014).

iPad only

6) Planner now tracks recently added meals over the past month. Up to 20 meals will be displayed on top of each category (KetoDiet meals, Custom meals and Quick meals). You won't have to search for foods you use frequently in your planner. They will be displayed on top of each category. Keep in mind that you can only see them if the "search" box is clear (see image below).
7) Easier access when creating custom ingredients / quick snacks. "Create custom ingredient" button has been added directly to the planner (no need to go via custom meals any more). 8) Body weight adjustment has been enabled to fit all needs. I received a request from a mother whose child suffers from Prader-Willi syndrome and needed to lower the total weight below what we used to have as minimum weight. 9) New restaurant chains added (PF Changs, Salad Stop, In-N-Out Burgers, Bob Evans). As before, meals are sorted by their net carbs content. I have received many requests for even more restaurants and would like to ensure you that I'll add all of them, it just takes time. Keep in mind that I can only add restaurant chains that publish their nutrition facts. Unlike other apps, we rely on accurate data and not estimates. 10) Font size for both Blog & KetoDiet Guide can be adjusted. Switching to "large" or "extra large" makes reading the KetoDiet Guide & our Blog easier.

Other planned features

We frequently get requests for several features to be added. Here is an overview of some of the most popular requests we are planning to implement :-)

Other features coming soon:

  • Make KetoDiet iPad app universal. All features of the iPad will be on the iPhone and you'll be able to synch between the two devices. Keep in mind that the current “basic” iPhone app and the iPad app cannot be “merged” into a universal app even in the future - it is technically a different app. The app that will become universal will be KetoDiet (iPad app). When this is done, I'll be giving away several promo codes / free copies, especially to those who already have the iPhone app and would like to use the planner feature.
  • Filtering of meals based on special dietary requirements (dairy-free, nut-free, etc.).
  • Exporting your Progress data (via e-mail and print-friendly) for medical and other purposes.
  • Option for flexible serving sizes for KetoDiet meals and custom meals additionally to the current options of ½ & 1 serving.
  • Option for sharing custom meals
  • Frequently added new restaurant chains (based on your requests).
  • and many more!

Are there any features you would like to see in a future update? If so, let us know by leaving a comment! :-)

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

I understand that a lot of work is going into making this app universal, however I was wondering if you could give an ETA. I love the planner/progress feature on the iPad and would love these features to be available for the iPhone. Great job so far!

Hi Bryen, I understand that and I know how popular this request is. The truth is that we were almost done until Apple changed their guidelines for syncing just a few weeks ago and it has slightly complicated our work. In fact, syncing is the major part of the work needed for the universal app to be done. Just to be completely safe, it should be finished by the end of this year (Christmas time), but hopefully before that. Thank you Bryen, I really appreciate your kind words!!

Thanks for the reply! That sounds frustrating but hopefully everything goes smoothly for you guys in the near future. I can't wait until the release! Cheers

I have tried numerous times to download the in app packages and am having difficulty. I am using an iPad. When I click the permission to buy button nothing happens. Any tips from anyone how to do this? I've also closed the app and tried to reinstall as well. Thanks 😊

Hi Tracy, I'm sorry to hear that. As long as you have a valid AppStore account and an internet connection you should be able to view the in-apps you have purchased.
It's a good idea to restart your device and retry. We had a couple of instances where it solved the problem:
To restart press & hold the power button until you see the 'slide to poweroff' message.
Once the device is powered off, press the power button to turn it on.
When you get to the home screen, launch KetoDiet and try to buy again.
Please note that you will never be charged for a package more than once no matter how many times you try to buy it - you only ever pay once per package.
Hope this helps, Martina

Great website. Just curious if you are making at tweek to the carb adjustments for when you exercise. When you are following a keto diet are you allowed more carbs to compensate for exercising?

Hi Melissa, thank you! Studies show that once you get keto-adapted, you don't need any pre-workout carbs because your body will use ketones for energy. It takes about 3-4 weeks for your body to start using ketones effectively and even longer to get fully keto-adapted (Phinney & Volek, The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance). Post-workout carbs and carb loading are not needed unless you are a bodybuilder or did a very intense exercise (strength exercise).

Thanks for all the great features Martina! Any idea when the "export" function will be added? I'd love to have this to show the stats to my doctor 😊

Hi Amanda, it will be added in the next update or the one following after. It is fairly complicated and will require more work but it is one of our priorities.

I would like to thank you for this amazing app. I've lost a lot of weight on keto but got kinda trapped about 3 months ago. I used an app (MFP) before but it was very unreliable. So many foods were wrong, I ended up eating more carbs and my macros were just off. I've tried many diet plans and spend hundreds of dollars on dieticians and I can't believe I get all this sorted out for just a few bucks using your app and following your blog.  I started using your app and I'm losing again! Thanks so much and keep up the great work!

Thank you Jimmy! I really appreciate your kind words! 😊

Great app! Will we be able to export food logs in upcoming versions? I've been transcribing them for my doctors and that would save some time.
It would also be great to have a "my foods" tab that I could add and delete things I use over and over.

Hi Marion, thanks for your feedback! We do have plans for exporting various data such as progress or meals eaten / macronutrients per day, so I will add this in our list. And yes, the separate section for "custom meals" would be helpful and we are thinking of adding something in the "Meals" section, allowing more flexibility (e.g. create complete recipes with steps). We haven't decided on it yet but once we have the universal app, we will be working on many new features.

Awesome! I've been using your app for 3 months now and lost over 15 pounds. I've been stalling for so long and your app made it so easy for me to follow the diet! And thanks for adding the recents! 😊

Thats amazing Sheila! Keto on and keep me updated! 😊

Oh my gosh can't wait!! All these recipes look mouthwatering!! And thanks for adding the option to export our shopping list 😉

Thank you Kate!! You are welcome 😊
