This week I'd like to share my thoughts on Swerve, an exciting low-carb sweetener. Swerve is an excellent sugar replacement and one of the best low-carb sweeteners to use when you follow the ketogenic diet. It's as sweet as sugar so you won't need to use any conversion charts.

Another benefit or Swerve is that it has the ability to caramelise which makes it perfect for baking and making keto desserts.

Since it doesn't spike blood sugar and insulin and it's almost zero-calorie, Swerve is diabetes-friendly and perfect for weight loss. There are only two ingredients in Swerve, erythritol and oligosaccharides:

  • Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that is naturally found in fruits, vegetables and fermented foods. It has almost zero calories and doesn't affect blood sugar. In fact, 90% of Erythritol is absorbed before it enters the large intestine and is excreted via urine. Erythritol is 70% as sweet as sugar.
  • Oligosaccharides are simple sugars naturally found in many plants, including onions, asparagus, leeks, jicama or Jerusalem artichoke. Our body cannot fully digest oligosaccharides, and almost 90% passes through the small intestine into the large colon where it acts as a prebiotic. As a prebiotic, it feeds the gut bacteria that produce short-chain fatty acids and B-vitamins.

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

I would love to taste this product after hearing so many good things about it

I have been using Stevia for the past few years for most of my tea, coffee, etc. and sometimes Splenda for desserts which seem a little sweeter to me for desserts.  But I love Stevia for myself.  I will now try Swerve, have never heard of it before.

I have used Swerve for about two years. It works excellent and has a great flavor.  My family cannot tell the difference. It is my favorite sugar substitute in baked goods .   I always order the combo pack because I love the powdered sugar for my smooth frosting's and smoothies.   The granular works wonderfully for cream Brulé.

How much do you use in recipes. I found it very sweet. It is very expensive so could someone help me with the conversion

I use Swerve for all my baking

What is the difference between Stevia and Swerve?

Hi Denise, have a look at this post: Complete Guide To Sweeteners on a Low-Carb Ketogenic Diet

I love Swerve!  It's great to make any cooked item.

Would love to try the Swerve Confectioners sugar. I use the regular Swerve all of the time and love it.

I tried the swerve to bake zucchini bread and I was very pleased with the results, their was no aftertaste and that was even better. I have recently tried Pyure an organic stevia blend whenever I want to make lemonade and this is also very good and it does not leave an aftertaste as well.

I only use swerve

I use Stevia, but I'd like to try swerve. I've heard good things. I can't find it anywhere but online.

Erythritol is my favorite sweetener. I find it has the least amount of aftertaste compared to other products I've tried.
Thank you for sharing your recipes and information. I have referred to you blog often.

I just started using Serve a few months ago when I decided to eat a Keto-ish diet. I used it this year in my greens for Thanksgiving, my family didn't even notice a difference. This is my new sweetener, no more sugar!!

The best tasting sugar I have had

Right now my favorite is Truvia, but I would love to try Swerve.

I love Swerve!

Having Hashimoto's and hypoglycemia, it's important I avoid white sugar as much as possible. I like Stevia for drinks/smoothies. But for baking, it never comes out right. I will love to try this Swerve product and see how it comes out for gluten-free baked goods.

I love stevia, and have started using swerve in many keto recipes!

I absolutely love Swerve and have used it successfully for making many, many low-carb chocolate mug cakes. For coffee, if I need a little sweetness in my cup I turn to my Torani sugar free syrups!

Swerve has been a lifesaver for me since I was diagnosed as a diabetic.  My body will not tolerate most artificial sweeteners, but swerve works for me.  I LOVE it and use it often.  After switching to a LCHF diet and finding swerve I have lost over 130 pounds in less than 2 years.  Thank you SWERVE for allowing me sweets again.

I currently use Truvia, but after reading the reviews I will be looking for this product.

I don't have a favourite sweetener.  Swerve sounds good..

I love Swerve! I used it to make our Thanksgiving desserts: Sour Cream Lemon Pie, and Chocolate Torte. My sweets-loving husband and son raved. I'm so glad I can now make health versions of their holiday favorites.

I use Stevia or Truvia. I will try Swerve.

Hi,
I haven't found the right sugar substitute for me yet. Therefore, I'd love to give Swerve a try.

Swerve is the best sugar alternative I've tasted. I find it's sweeter than sugar so I often don't use as much as some recipes recommend.
