Disclaimer: PrimalKind has been provided to me for the purpose of this review as a free sample. This has not influenced my review and the opinions expressed in this post are my own. PrimalKind is one of our sponsors in the KetoDiet Challenges.

When you give up foods such as sugar-laden granola, toast and muffins, it may seem challenging to find healthy low-carb breakfast options. Although I love eggs and bacon, even I couldn't eat them every single day.

Smoothies are a great grab-n-go breakfast meal for those with busy life styles. In this review I'm sharing my thoughts on PrimalKind smoothie meals that can easily be prepared in less than a minute.

What is PrimalKind?

PrimalKind smoothie meals are made of real food and organic ingredients, including macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, coconut flour, baobab powder, pink Himalayan salt, kale powder, monk fruit (natural low-carb sweetener), cacao powder, etc.

The highlights

  • Suitable for the ketogenic and paleo diets
  • Good source of healthy fats, especially omega 3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats (MUFA), while low (only 10%) in polyunsaturated fats (PUFA). To learn all about healthy fats, check out my Guide to Fats & Oils.
  • Good source of fibre, prebiotics, vitamins and minerals
  • Good source of antioxidants and natural adaptogens
  • Allergy-free & vegan - good source of plant-based protein (note: contains nuts)
  • No artificial flavouring and no artificial colouring
  • Affordable keto & paleo meal. If you buy the large pack (30 servings), a serving works out at about $3.50 USD
  • PrimalKind ship globally from Australia

PrimalKind Smoothie Meal Review

PrimalKind is a complete meal available in 2 flavours: Chocolate (my favourite) and Natural. Depending on your energy requirements, you can also choose between PrimalKind for Her (specially formulated for women) and PrimalKind for Him (specially formulated for men).

  • For Him: One serving contains 500 calories, 7 g net carbs, 18 g protein, 45 g fat, 168 mg (42% RDA) magnesium and 1,254 mg potassium (63% EMR).
  • For Her: One serving contains 300 calories, 6 g net carbs, 13 g protein, 26 g fat, 128 mg (32% RDA) magnesium and 1,232 mg potassium (62% EMR)

Typically, men and women have different nutritional requirements. Depending on your daily calorie targets and your activity level, you can use either of the above options (e.g. for Him would be better suited for highly active women, not just men).

Preparation Tips

All you need to prepare a smoothie is to add 400 ml of water. Simply blend it for 30-40 seconds until creamy. Don't expect this smoothie to be extra "smooth" - it is slightly grainy (contains nuts and seeds). The sweetness is subtle and the consistency is rich.

Apart from water, you can use any unsweetened nut or seed milk. I wouldn't use coconut milk as that would make the smoothie too thick and would significantly increase the calorie count. My favourite blend is the Chocolate smoothie meal with unsweetened cashew milk.

You can prepare one serving at a time or multiple servings and store them in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

I have been struggling to find a quick and easy breakfast option. I hope this will be my goldmine!

I love a smoothie sometimes instead of a meal. This would be a great way to test it out.

Reply

Sometimes you need a fast alternative to bacon and eggs. These look great!

Good morning!

I am always on the look out for easy and nutritious options. My go breakfast is eggs and avocado or Keto waffles and bacon. But sometimes I'm in a hurry and I have nothing to reheat from the day before (waffles & bacon). I love that the ingredients appear to be all natural with added magnesium and potassium! Usually I stay away from stuff like this because of possible toxic ingredients. I am a breast cancer survivor so clean ingredients are VERY important to me! Thanks so much for bringing this product to my attention! 😊

Reply

I would like to try the Primal smoothies, I thought they might be pretty high in carbs but I don't know for sure - would like to check them out!

Hi Nancy, the nutrition facts per serving are included in this post - they are low in carbs.

Haven't had a breakfast smoothie since going on the diet! I usually toast some nuts and shredded coconut every morning and have it with cream, but I also make  Maria Mind Body Health's Girl Scout Cereal which is delicious too!

Wow, being as how I am just beginning to go keto, this would be a GREAT way to help me out with breakfasts, something I find challenging and which has actually made it very difficult to get going full-on with keto...and maybe, just maybe, I could get hubby to go along with the program as well!  They sound really awesomely tasty!!  Also, buying the keto-app for my I-Pad that my best friend has loaned to me specifically so I could put the app on it, to boot; onward and upward!!  Smile

For the most part, living a fast paced life does not go well with a Keto/Paleo lyfestle. I hope to have the opportunity to try these, it would help me keep on track with my health changes.

Reply

This would be ideal as I'm am up at 530am getting ready for work and then getting my 3 kids their breakfast and packed lunches for school, barely enough time to make a meal, so I am a protein smoothy breakfast girl.

Reply

Reply

Never heard of this kind of thing before, would be really interested to try them. Sometimes when I want breakfast on the go, my options are limited - can imagine a smoothie like this would be great!

Reply

Hi Martina, how do you do to have your first meal at 3pm? I've tried but I get cranky and with foggy mind; I should be on a 12gr carbs keto diet...very difficult to hit. Besides, with the good weather I started riding my bike, it gets even worse!! would love to try these ones and see how it goes Smile

Reply

Hi Zana, I think there are a few reasons why I rarely feel hungry. One of them is the natural appetite-suppressing effect of low-carb eating and stabilised blood sugar levels. I only eat twice a day on most days, plus my morning coffee + cream so technically it's not 100% fasting until 3 pm.
Also, I don't restrict my carbs too much, I mostly eat about 30 g net carbs (up to about 50 g total carbs mostly from vegetables), sometimes more, sometimes less depending on whether I exercise (HIIT), etc. I find that if I go below 20 g net carbs, my hypothyroid symptoms get worse and I may even end up eating more.
Another reason I don't feel hungry until 3 pm is that my sleeping pattern is "different"... to be precise it's not ideal. Because of the nature of my job,  go to bed after midnight and wake up at 9-10 am. It's a bad habit and it's not easy to change.

One of my favorite type of keto breakfasts recently is preparing whipped coconut milk, berries, and a handful of nuts and putting it in the fridge over night to eat in the morning! It's super easy! Reply

Awesome review--many thanks!

Reply

I tend to treat breakfast the same as any other meal of the day--being just as good a time for almond pancakes, coconut muffins, as for fish curry and cheese fondue or soufflé. The only type of food that really only fits the morning to me is precisely smoothies! And I've just been struggling with getting them to taste exactly right... So here's to hoping PrimalKind might help with that!

Reply

I would like to try these products for sure

It's not wrong at all! I don't eat breakfast on most days. I usually have my first meal round 3 pm Smile

My quick breakfast are smoothies. I like to use 1/2 cup coffee, chocolate protein powder, and coconut milk. Just like a mocha.

Lately I am loving smoothies for breakfast. My go-to is a few frozen strawberries, almond milk, chia, MCT and protein powder - but my protein powder kinda sucks as the texture gets a little bit chalky and it has some nasty sweeteners, so I would love to try this one, it looks amazing!

Reply

thank you!

What a great giveaway! I love Keto diet and what it's done for my health.

Reply

As a non-strict vegetarian (I eat eggs and dairy), I find that many, if not most, keto recipes include meat, so that those meat-including recipes are useless to me.  I know that I could just leave out the meat from the recipe, but I think that might not work very well.  A keto vegetarian recipe book with recipes that offer tasty dishes would be nice.

Reply

Hi Wayne, there are plenty vegetarian recipes on my blog (you can use the filtering tool in Recipes (KetoDiet Blog: Recipes) and select "vegetarian" and "savory" (currently about 120 results). I hope this helps!

Reply

I am excited to try this! I can't have eggs, which makes breakfast very difficult.

Reply

I'm a big fan of modified bullet-proof coffee. I only use 2 tsp coconut oil and 1 tbsp butter (the suggested amounts are too much for me), then add unsweetened coconut milk, stevia and cinnamon.  But it would be nice to have other options!  Glad to know about these smoothies.
