There’s nothing quite like the scent of a really tasty recipe filling the kitchen. Like a good crispy roast chicken or a slow cooker stew that’s been marinating for hours. Well, this 5-Ingredient Keto Nutella beats them all hands down!

The aroma of toasted hazelnuts is so warming and aromatic. I’m telling you guys, this sugar-free keto Nutella could sell houses! Forget freshly ground coffee or a home baked loaf, get this on the go, it’s that good!

…and if you’re not moving house, well it will wake sleepy heads out of their beds for breakfast for sure!

What I love about this 5-Ingredient Keto Nutella is that it’s sugar-free, packed with heart-healthy MUFA and super easy to make. You can totally customise how smooth you make it too. Simply blitz for a longer time if you want it super smooth or slightly less for more of a crunchy texture from the hazelnuts. I like a bit of texture so went for somewhere in the middle.

Smother on a slice of keto toast, low-carb graham crackers or if you’re a nut butter addict like me, spoon straight from the jar! You can even use this keto chocolate hazelnut spread to make all sorts of sweet fat bombs — all those options!

Is Dark Chocolate Healthy?

We used 90% dark chocolate but any dark chocolate with at least 85% cacao is a good low-carb option. Although there is a small amount of sugar, the carb count is low and it's one of the ingredients that can be used in moderation when you follow a healthy low-carb diet. You can also use sugar-free chocolate (dark, milk or even white if you can get it) sweetened with stevia or inulin.

If you want to avoid any added sugar, you can also use unsweetened 100% dark chocolate and then add more sweetener to taste.

Can I Use Whole Unpeeled Hazelnuts?

We recommend using peeled hazelnuts as the skins tend to add a bitter aftertaste. You can easily remove the peel. Simply bake the nuts as instructed. Once roasted and cooled, rub the hazelnuts together in your hands to remove the skins. This makes the butter smooth and avoids the bitter taste imparted by the skins.

No luck for me. My hazelnuts never became smooth. It came out as ground nuts with chocolate. I have a very good food processor. Any ideas where I may have gone wrong?

Sorry to hear that, apart from the tips here, I can only recommend soaking the hazelnuts in water for up to 8 hours prior to blending as that might make them smoother. Other than that I'd say just blending them longer. As you can see from the photos, it's fairly smooth but not like regular Nutella. The main reason is that regular Nutella is mostly sugar and fats, plus a little bit of hazelnuts. This is mostly hazelnuts.

Can I use almonds instead of hazelnuts?

Taste wise - absolutely!

I tried making this but as soon as I added the coconut milk, it turned into a dough-like consistency 😞 What am I doing wrong?

Oh no, it seems that it split which happens when you have coconut milk that's too cold. The mixtures should have a similar temperature. It's the same case with chocolate ganache. Have you tried gently heating the mixture up & stirring?

This happened to me as well, and the coconut milk was well warmed. I wonder whether she and I were both using coconut milk without gums or additives? The high water content without something to emulsify might have done it.

I did use Aroy-D cartons which claim to only contain coconut and water so it might be a factor.

Will this work with almonds or cashews? Those are the only nuts my daughter is not allergic to.

Absolutely! It won't taste the same way but it will make a delicious chocolate spread!

How many cups is the Hazelnut after being ground in the food processor. I purchased some toasted ground hazelnut, but don’t know how much to use with this recipe.

Hi Jo, if you go by the grams (about 300 g), you'll be ok. That should be about 3 cups of finely ground hazelnuts.

Nutella is love. This made my day as a keto follower

Oh I can still remember how amazing the smell of this Nutella is! Tastes incredible.

I just LOVE this recipe, so delicious! And can be done sweetener-free too with 100% chocolate 😊
