KetoDiet App FAQ

|KetoDiet App FAQ

Haven't found what you're looking for? Please, feel free to send us an e-mail or leave a comment if you have any questions. We'll be happy to answer! :-)

1. Who Created KetoDiet?

KetoDiet is an on-going project I started with my partner in 2012 and includes KetoDiet for the iPad, KetoDiet Basic (iPhone & iPad). Apart from the apps, I have authored several low-carb cookbooks (my third cookbook will be out in spring 2017).

KetoDiet app is a complex app and took several years to develop. Since the launch in 2012, we have continuously been working on more features and improvements. It's a full-time job for me, and now also for my partner.

2. What is the Difference Between KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic?

When we first developed KetoDiet, it was exclusive to the iPad. In order to make a version of KetoDiet available for the iPhone that many of you requested, we created a simplified version, KetoDiet Basic. KetoDiet Basic does not include include the Planning and Progress monitoring features. You can see a comparison table on our website here.

Although we make it clear on our blog, the AppStore screenshots and the App description, if by any chance, you bought KetoDiet Basic and expected a universal app or the planning feature included, you can get a refund in iTunes or Google Play. Please, let us know, we are happy to help you with that.

UPDATE: Great news! We've been working on a universal iOS and Android Apps that will support the planning & monitoring functionality! The iOS App will be out in December 2016 - January 2017 and the Android version should be out in early 2017. You can stay up to date by following my latest posts.

You can learn more about our Apps, my cookbooks and future plans in a podcast I did with Brian of Ketovangelist!

3. Can In-Apps Be Shared Between KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic?

No, I'm afraid this is not possible and it's down to technical limitations. Because the apps are different, nothing can be shared between them, including the in-apps. This is, unfortunately, out of our control as Apple won’t allow sharing in-apps between different apps. If it was up to us, we would be more than happy to do that but it's not.

Please, keep in mind that if you get our app on your iPhone and Android device, in-apps cannot be shared even if it's the same app. iOS and Android are two different platforms and they don't share their sales. That's why sharing in-apps is not possible.

4. I Want the Planning and Monitoring Features on My iPhone

We have been working on converting the KetoDiet iPad app into a UNIVERSAL app that will work on the iPhone. It will take some time to complete (December 2016 - January 2017). The truth about software development is that you can never tell how complicated it will get as you work on it.

We will soon be running a beta-testing program for the new universal KetoDiet app to collect user feedback. If you'd like to join and be one of the first to use our Universal iOS App or Android App, please, let us know. More details are here.

5. Will There be an Upgrade Path for KetoDiet Basic Users?

Yes, when we finish the universal app, we will provide access to all advanced features (planner monitoring, etc) for KetoDiet Basic users through in-apps. Not everyone wants to use the advanced features in KetoDiet but we want to make it easy for those who change their mind. Below are our plans in more detail:

  • Make KetoDiet Basic a universal App with support for all iOS devices (iPads and iPhones) --> this has been done!
  • bring KetoDiet Basic to Android --> this has been done!
  • Make KetoDiet a universal App with support for all iOS devices (iPads and iPhones) --> our current task. Beta testing will start in November 2016, the app will be released in December 2016 or January 2017.
  • Bring KetoDiet to Android --> our current task. Beta testing is planned for early-mid 2017.
  • Provide access to all advanced features for KetoDiet Basic users through in-apps. Not everyone wants to use the advanced features in KetoDiet but we want to make it easy for those who change their minds. This will be done soon after KetoDiet App becomes universal.
  • Keep in mind that the KetoDiet Basic app and the KetoDiet iPad app cannot be “merged” into a universal app even in the future - this is technically not possible.

6. How About Android and Other Devices?

As you may know, we brought KetoDiet Basic to Android in December 2015. We are now working on bringing the fully featured KetoDiet App to Android.

We will soon be running a beta-testing program (early-mid 2017) for the new universal KetoDiet app to collect user feedback. If you'd like to join and be one of the first to use our Universal iOS App or Android App, please, let us know. More details are here. Our ultimate goal is to bring KetoDiet to all platforms, not just iOS devices.

7. KetoDiet Pricing Explained

When it comes to Apps, the expectations can sometimes be unrealistic and I'd like to explain how we run our blog & apps so there is complete transparency.

Since 2012, with the ever increasing traffic, costs to run our blog also increased. We don't use AdThrive or other advertising services because we want to have complete control of what our readers can see. We only use the Amazon affiliate program and promote a few products we buy ourselves and trust (always with a disclosure). This currently helps us run the blog as it covers the costs of hosting, but it does not cover maintenance and development.

KetoDiet App is available for $4.99 USD (KetoDiet) and KetoDiet Basic for $1.99 USD, plus $6 worth of in-apps that are not required to use it.

It's a full-time job for me and my partner. The app is only part of my job - I've spent several years creating the content: recipes, articles, reviews, diet plans and challenges. The overall feedback we receive has been brilliant and keeps us motivated but there are some people who may complain that our app is expensive and I'd like to explain how we decide on the pricing.

Free Recipes, Articles and Diet Plans

There is only so much free content we can frequently provide: hundreds of recipes that we also provide via our integrated blog in the App itself, articles, diet plans and challenges. All this is very rewarding, but also takes an incredible amount of time to create and maintain. Some people take all this for granted but we can only continue doing this if it's sustainable.

The illusion many people have is that creating an app will make them rich. Nothing can be further from the truth. Just ask any app developer and they will no doubt advice you to steer clear from developing an app. The chances of recovering your development costs are minute and a large part of the proceeds is used for further development of the App.

So Much More Than an eBook

Compared to an eBook, our App has required years of commitment and continuous maintenance. In fact, I know what it takes to create an eBook - I have created several free eBooks that you can download here. Even a regular printed cookbook would cost you $15 - $20 and that is just for a fraction of content we offer in our apps.

No Subscription Payments Required

Since 2012, we've been adding new features at no extra cost with no subscription fees for any newly created content. Keep in mind that similar online services that offer same or even fewer features would charge you $30+ every month.

Free KetoDiet Challenges

We run Keto Challenges that are free to join, with access to our members-only community, useful tools and eBooks. It has been a fantastic experience. At the same time it has also been a very time-consuming process but we are determined to keep improving it. We know that community support and accountability are the most powerful tools to help you achieve your goals - and that's why we created the KetoDiet Challenge!

And thanks to our amazing sponsors who contribute to the challenge, you win awesome prizes worth thousands of dollars! :-)

Why Have In-Apps?

Contrary to what most people think, in-apps do not exist only to generate money. In our case, the primary drive for in-apps is to ensure that only legitimate users have access to all the available features and a smooth user experience.

People who illegally "install" unauthorised copies of the app on jailbroken devices will have a rather annoying and limited experience. Our priority is to protect our investment and make the app the best we can for our legitimate users.

|KetoDiet App FAQ

What does the full price of $10 include?

  • An app that is beautifully designed specifically for low-carb diets and strictly focused on providing quality content with precise nutrition data.
  • A complete guide to the Ketogenic diet (a book in its own right).
  • Planner and monitoring features to track your progress - the most complex part of our app.
  • Delicious low-carb recipes that are exclusive to the KetoDiet apps, all including step-by-step photos and useful tips.
  • Fully integrated blog with frequent weekly updates including recipes, diet plans and articles from experts. All blog content is FREE without any subscription fees. All blog recipes can be added directly to the Planner in KetoDiet and used in your daily plan.
  • Print-friendly & easy to export shopping list to make managing your shopping easy.
  • Support - we always try to reply as soon as possible. Please, keep in mind that due to our very busy schedule, this may take up to a week.

KetoDiet is an ongoing project we've been working on for several years. In order to add new features and new recipes that are often requested by our users, we need to keep this project sustainable.

8. AppStore Reviews & Clarifications

I would first like to thank everyone who has left a review on the AppStore. Reviews & feedback is what helps us improve KetoDiet and enables us do our job the best we can. If you like what we do and want to support us, please, don't forget to leave a review!

|KetoDiet App FAQ

Although we get excellent feedback from our users there are occasions where people leave misleading feedback. This creates some confusion as people are unsure about the features in the app. Sadly there is no way for us to respond directly to the reviews. So the only opportunity we have is to clarify them here.

Below are two reviews where I highlighted the issues I'd like to comment on. We have no illusions: We know it's impossible to please everyone and users have the right to express their view as they should. What I want to do is to clarify a few points that are incorrect and may cause confusion.

Lastly, there are other developers selling apps whose interest is to downrate other apps. It's not unusual to see reviews that make no sense or complain about non-existing issues. Since the AppStore doesn't give an option to comment on reviews, the only way to deal with them is to get honest reviews from those of you, who actually use our app - that's why honest reviews are so important to us - it's the only way to support us in we do.

|KetoDiet App FAQ

  • Missing features
"it has absolutely no food in here except the recipes they've put in here"
This is incorrect. In KetoDiet (iPad) you can create your own meals using basic ingredients or just the nutrition info. You can even create your own ingredients if you want to. To be more specific, in your daily Planner, you can use: KetoDiet Meals, any of your Custom Meals & Quick Snacks, Restaurant Meals and hundreds of free Blog Meals.

"I am not able to chart my progress or adapt any reports"
Progress monitoring in KetoDiet is automatic. You just add your daily meals, adjust your measurements, weight, etc and your progress will be updated automatically. Currently there are 6 different charts that track your progress.

"I HAVE to use her meals and recipes without adaptions for personal allergies".
We do offer optional ingredients in the recipes and you can always create your own Custom meal.

If you're unsure about what the app offers, I suggest you watch video tutorial here.

  • Complaints about in-apps
"... There are more recipes inside to purchase", "And the more interesting are an additional price, with most being free on the Internet."
We have explained the pricing in the previous sections. If you're unhappy with the in-apps or anything else, we'll help you get a full refund. However, we do all we can to make it absolutely clear that we have in-apps: we have the details on the primary AppStore screenshot, in the AppStore description and on our website. Also, AppStore clearly tags apps with "Offers In-App Purchases".

|KetoDiet App FAQ

9. Can Multiple Users use KetoDiet on a Single Device?

Not yet but it will soon. The iPad is fundamentally a single-user device (at least for now). Although technically feasible, our main concern is building multi-user support will add unnecessary complexity that won't benefit the vast majority of our users. The good news is that this feature will be implemented as part of the universal app! More details are here.

10. Can I Track my Activity / Exercise with the KetoDiet App?

Not at the moment. This feature is in our to-do list for a future update together with a long list of new features you've been asking for (tracking ketones, blood glucose levels, etc.)

11. Does the KetoDiet App have a Bar-Scanning Feature for Adding Ingredients?

No, it doesn't. Once we're satisfied that the data provided is reliable, we will include barcode scanning. The problem with it is that much of the data are incorrect or inaccurate. Also, be mindful that counting carbs is different in the US compared to some other countries (UK, Australia, etc.). In the UK, “total carbs” refers to what is known as "net carbs” in the US. That itself will cause major inaccuracies.

Keep in mind, that as little as 10 grams of carbs can easily kick you out of ketosis. For that reason, accuracy is our main focus! KetoDiet App primarily uses raw ingredients with nutritional data obtained from the highly accurate USDA database together with our own keto-friendly database. This is not accidental as we encourage people to use real food and not rely on processed & ready-made meals. We will keep improving our database with each update and keep adding new ingredients on a regular basis.

For the reason outlined above, you may not find all brand products and ready-made meals in KetoDiet App. However, you can always create your own custom meals or even custom ingredients. Other apps (like MFP) follow a different approach where the nutritional data is generated by users. Although the obvious advantage of this approach is that the database is large, it often contains inaccurate & unverified data.

12. Do You Provide Professional Advice?

No, I'm sorry, I / we don't offer this service.

I'll be happy to give you tips or share your questions on our Facebook page, in the KetoDiet Support Group or by leaving a comment on our blog. However, I can't promise I'll reply to e-mails asking for health/weight loss advice. This is down to two reasons:

  1. I'm not qualified to give you professional personalised advice. If you are looking for personalised advice, please, contact a dietitian or speak to your doctor.
  2. I have a very busy schedule and very little free time. I take any advice or opinion I share seriously and offering a brief reply is neither helpful nor appropriate.

If you do need to speak to a professional, you can contact a qualified low-carb / keto expert.

Do you have any questions about our Apps? Missing any features or have suggestions?

If you have more questions about KetoDiet, please let us know! If you'd like to see a feature that is currently not supported, chances are it is in our to-do list. We really appreciate any feedback and will get back to you as soon as we can.

Most of the features we've been working on have been driven by your feedback. Please keep in mind, KetoDiet is a complex application and adding new features takes time and a lot of effort.

Here is just an overview of some of the features we are planning to add in the near future:

• Convert KetoDiet for the iPad into a universal app so it can be used on both the iPad and the iPhone
• Ability to add/import diet plans from our blog similarly to what you can currently so with meals I post on our Blog.
• Expanding the filtering options for recipes to cover specific dietary requirements (dairy-free, egg-free, etc.)
• Exporting progress data, tracking ketone levels, sharing custom meals with others
• Tracking activity / exercise
• and many more - let us know your suggestions by leaving a comment!

Martina, Your website and apps are AMAZING!  SO MUCH ACCURATE and HELPFUL information--have spent many hours learning from it all and from you. You truly are a Godsend. The information you make available is PRICELESS and has no doubt saved my life! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Thank you so much Ann, I really appreciate that!!

Costco sells whey powder brand name muscle milk. 1 scoop -130 calories ; 3G carbs ;27 G protein.  Is this ok for a keto diet?

Reply

I don't think it's a good option. I may be wrong but some of the ingredients in this product are maltodextrin, corn fiber, canola oil and even fructose. Also, what you want is whey protein isolate.  If there are 3 grams of carbs per scoop, it must be whey protein concentrate. Isolate would be round 4 grams of carbs per 100 grams.

I cannot lot into the track feature, which I paid for.  I have repeatedly tried to correct it and can't seem to.  I am sure you will claim that this is "misleading" and if you can clear it up that would be great, otherwise the "wait a bit and try again" feature really should be fixed!

Reply

Hi Lisa, I can assure you that if you bought KetoDiet App (not KetoDiet Basic), you can use the tracking & monitoring feature. We never display a message saying "wait a bit and try again" (or anything like that).
Please, contact us via this form for any support questions regarding our apps - we are happy to help if you could give us more details (maybe providing a screenshot would help): https://ketodietapp.com/Blog/contact Thank you!

I am located in Canada, would like the app but your website says 1.99 limited time offer... on google play 2.99 - google play price remained the same after updating google wallet address. At 1.99 it would convert to approx 2.60CAD, at 2.99 it's like 4.00CAD?

Reply

Hi Sheila, I just checked the price on Google Play and it is 1.99 USD.
The price displayed on our website is in American dollars (as displayed here: https://ketodietapp.com/ for $ 1.99 (USD)). The prize may vary in different countries based on the adjustment Google Play makes according to the currency exchange rate. I hope this helps, Martina

A feature I would like to see is to somehow merge your cookbooks (the ones from Amazon) into the app.  That would really help with meal planning and make it easier to track my macros.
If the full cookbook can't be imported, then how about the info (without the recipe) about each meal so we can select it for tracking meals.
Thank you!!  We love this app!

Reply

Thank you Susan, I'd love to do that and add all my recipes in the app but I have contractual limitations with my publisher. However, I should be able to add nutrition facts for my recipes (I don't see any reason why this would be an issue but I'll contact my publisher). Thank you for your great suggestion!

Reply

I want to buy the cookbook but have been waiting hoping it would be integrated into the app somehow. I'm just not looking forward to manually adding the recipes for tracking, so having the nutritional info would be the next best thing.

Reply

Hi Susan, I have this in my to-do list. We're almost done with the universal app and then I'll start adding more features such as this one.

Reply

Wondering if you have vegan options in either the basic or iPad APP.

Reply

I'm afraid it's nearly impossible to follow a vegan-friendly keto diet. Most of the recipes in my apps and books are not suitable for a vegan approach.

Reply

Hi Martina,
I absolutely love your website and recipes. I just wanted to mention though, that I can't access your KetoDiet on Android because I only have a Kindlefire and it doesn't accept GooglePlay. I've even tried to get it on my computer(pc), but that doesn't work either. I know you worked really hard to get your program on Android, so I was wondering if it will soon be available to people like me (people that don't have a smart phone)? Thanks also for all that you provide.

Reply

Thank you for your kind words, Michele. The apps are currently iOS and Android only and you can only get them through the AppStore or Google Play. Once we have the universal iOS and Android apps done (our current task), we will make it for more platforms. Yes, we are also planning to make it available for those who don't use smart phones Smile

Reply

I haven't been able to find the answer to this anywhere: with all the recipes available on the app, is the aim to just mix and match the breakfasts, lunch and dinners? Or does one have to follow a specific routine of meals on certain days or only a certain amount of times per week?
If you could make this clearer or direct me to the answer it would be much appreciated.

Reply

Hi Jessica, this is very individual. Some people eat three times a day (+ sometimes also have snacks), while others eat once or twice (intermittent fasting). It's up to you and will depend on how hungry you feel.
Just to clarify: The iPad app will enable you to track what you are eating, while the iPad app is "Basic" and doesn't include the tracking option (not yet). I hope this helps!

Reply

I'm unable to make in app purchases every time I try to purchase the extra packs it keeps saying in app purchases are not allowed. Why is this?

Reply

Hi Jamie, is that on Android or iOS?

Hi there!
Im Cintia, Brazilian living in China and absolutely loved ur website
Just a quick heads up and saying that this website has been truly useful!
Im new to this keto diet and decided to give it a try since I was training a lot and my body fat was the same even controlling a healthy diet following a paleo-zone diet.
Was using Myfitness pall to track down the macros, but lets see how this App works ;)
After 2 weeks of this journey will start posting on my blog the progress ;)
thx a lot!

Reply

Thank you Cintia, I hope you like it!

Reply

I purchased the App. Its very helpful since my husband and I are new to Keto. My question is we have two ipads and I noticed that the information does not synced. Is there a way to do it?

Reply

Hi Jennifer, the app does not currently sync but we've been working on a universal app that will include multi-user support (please, see point 9).

Reply

I have sent several emails and have never received a reply. I purchased the KetoDiet App form my iPad and have been using it though I would say the instructions are very lacking. Most of what I have done has been by trial and error. I bought the KetoDiet Basic and all the add ons for my iPhone but if this is not going to be updated to include the planner, tracker etc. as the one for the iPad I would like to get a refund and purchase the App when completed. I spent $8.66 of my ITunes Store credit for this App(and add ons) which are basically useless at this point. I have sent this data in before. If someone will contact me personally. I can submit again. I would like to be reimbursed for this cost at this time. Contact me at kathiemoody@ charter.net for further instruction. Thank you

Reply

Hi Kathie,
I'm sorry to hear that. I did a quick search through all my inboxes but have't found any e-mail from the address you used here. Please, keep in mind that we do not handle any sales/transactions. The way it works on the AppStore is that you have to get a refund directly from iTunes, not app developers. As I explained in this post, we are working on the universal app which includes the following steps:
- make KetoDiet (iPad) a universal App with support for all iOS devices (iPads and iPhones) - our current task
- bring KetoDiet (full version) to Android - our current task
- provide access to all advanced features for KetoDiet Basic users through in-apps. We want to make it easy for those who want to update from KetoDiet Basic to KetoDiet.
I hope this helps. Best regards, Martina

Hi Martina
I am from Australia and I'm impressed with your down to earth, factual and simplified explanations of ketogenic diets. Thank you!
I have just downloaded your app (KetoDiet Basic) for $2.99 (AU) but was surprised to discover that I cannot enter my daily food so it can calculate my macros for me. Do you have this function available in your other app?
Many thanks
Danni

Reply

Thank you Danni! This is explained in points 2.-5. in this post. We are currently working on a universal app which will bring those features to the iPhone and Android too Smile

Reply

Thank you so much for making such a great app! It's helped me immensely with planning my meals and hitting my correct levels. Thanks to this I've finally lost my stomach fat in a week and I have recommended the app to my friends too. The only qualm I have with it is it would be nice to see substituted ingredients on certain recipes. I have a really bad nut allergy & I'm quite highly sensitive to traces too, so things like all nuts, seeds and even coconut (oil/flesh) I cannot touch at all. Trying to find information and advice on what to use in place of these things is incredibly frustrating for people like myself. If you could do something like that in this app, I'm sure it would be VERY much appreciated by many people.

Reply

Thank you so much! In the new version we are planning to make add functionality for new recipes that are based on the recipes in the Meals tab. This way you will be able to use alternatives. We will also add a filtering feature focused on allergy preferences. These new features will be added after we complete the universal app - we are hoping this summer! Smile

Reply

Martina, Thanks again for an amazing blog as I start my Keto journey. I just downloaded the app and I'm amazed that there isn't a basic list of staple foods to add to make your own meal. I do not have the patience to manually enter in all my foods I eat on a regular basis if I am not making a recipe by you. Am i missing something? I cannot just add half an avocado to the list of foods I ate for the day?

Reply

Hi Ben, you can make your own custom meal (please, see Planner -> Add -> Custom -> Create Custom Meal) or you can add a single ingredient like avocado (Planner -> Add -> Quick). Is this what you had on mind? We're working on a new UI (together with the universal app) that will make it even easier to add foods/ ingredients. I hope this helps!

Hi there. I trued entering one of the codes from your newsletter for the Android app but it didn't take. I got the code and entered it really carefully but no luck Frown
Hope you can help. Thanks.

Reply

Hi Rain, I won't be able to tell what happened or why it didn't work. All promo codes are generated from Google Play and only one person can use it (the service we use prevents more people from getting the same code). Please, send us a support e-mail if you wish to get a promo code.

Are we supposed to be able to search/add all the recipes in the KetoDiet Cookbook to our KetoDiet App? If so there appear to be several missing.
Side Note:  We really really REALLY need and import/export feature for our custom meals/ingredients.  Relying on an iPad backup isn't ideal, especially if you're temporarily sharing an iPad and switching to your own device.

Reply

Syrenh, I'm afraid I won't be able to do that. Recipes from the KetoDiet cookbook cannot be added to the app due to contractual limitations and copyright agreement with my publisher.
We'd love to add all these features but it takes time. Our priority is to finish the universal app and make the planning feature available on the iPhone and Android devices. After this is done, we will add more features (the export function is in our to-do list). The new universal app will also have multiple profile options.

Reply

The refresh does nothing. I have paid $4 for extra recipes. What does the refresher do?? I was under the impression that I would only have pay to unlock recipes one time. Do I have to pay for every locked recipe?

Reply

Hi Eileen, sorry for the late reply - it's better if you contact KetoDiet support (email in the app) for this purpose. It takes time to approve and reply to all the comments on my blog so there is a delay. The "restore purchases" will load all the recipes you have previously purchased - you don't have to pay more than once. Please, keep in mind that you can only restore recipes from the same app, not between KetoDiet Basic and KetoDiet (please, see point 3 in this post). I hope this helps. Martina

New app for me and loving it so far. Maybe I'm missing something, but is there a way to print daily records, progress, etc.? I'm working with a nutritionist and have committed to emailing food logs to her weekly.  Maybe this is an option on the upgraded app?
Also, thank you so much for making you eBook free, as well as so much information and recipes.  Your karma is glowing!  This has been such a gift during a time of expensive health issues...I really appreciate your work.
Thank you!

Reply

Thank you Beth, I really appreciate that!! The "export" function is in our to-do list (see the end of this post). Our priority is to finish the universal app and make the planning feature available on the iPhone and Android devices. After this is done, we will add more features Smile

Reply

I'm wanting to add a recipe to my keto app on my iPad but it only allows me to add the ingredients and not the steps to make it, am I doing something wrong or it's not available to do.

Reply

Hi Raijon, you can currently create a "custom meal" that is used for tracking purposes but not a "recipe". We are planning to add functionality so that you will be able to add a whole recipe (with steps, notes, etc) but this will take some time. Our priority is to finish the universal app and make the planning feature available on the iPhone and Android devices.

Reply

Thank you for the transparency. I can't wait for the universal app so I can track my progress on my iPhone! My husband is a software developer too and created two apps for Android and iOS ... so I know what you've been going through. It's no secret that when it comes to apps and software in general, people have unrealistic expectations driven by the "free apps market". They don't realize how much work goes in an app this complex. Keep it up!

Reply

Thank you Emily!

I received a free promo code for your book, and I went through itunes and my phone updated for a very long time but when j opened the app I don't see the book. Is it hiding somewhere I'm not looking?

Reply

Hi Maritza, I haven't given away any promo codes for my book. The promo codes that I give away in the newsletter are only for the KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic apps. The book is not included (exclusive contract with my publisher wouldn't allow that). I hope this helps!

Reply

I have been scanning this info to see if you have this program available to use on the internet.  I don't have a smart phone of any type or ipad...just my computer.  I hope you will soon have a program that I can use to track my food that might even work with my fitbit????  At any rate, tracking the food is the most important to me right now, as I am struggling with that part of the program.  Thanks so much.

Reply

Hi Karen, it's not something we support now but we will make KetoDiet for desktop PCs too, later this year. We also plan to add integration with other devices and we'll consider supporting FitBit.

Reply

Hi, Martina! I think your app looks great and I can't wait to try the full app when it comes out for Android. I would love to get in on the beta testing, should that be a possibility. My current question has to do with how specific one would be able to get, as far as calculating recipes with specific brands of foods goes. For example, I always buy the same brands of bacon, cheese, lunch meats, etc. to create my meals (creature of habit, I guess). Some apps (e.g. myfitnesspal) allow us to create meals with our preferred brands in order to make our tracking as accurate as possible. Other apps (e.g. Eat This Much) don't have an extensive database for such a task. Where does your app fall in this spectrum?

Reply

Hi Carly, if you want to take part in the beta-testing program, please, send us an e-mail (http://ketodietapp.com/Blog/contact) and we will include you in the list. Once it's out, I'll send out details on how to get a copy.
When it comes to the database, we aim for accuracy rather than volume. What I mean is that our database is not "shared" between users but each user can create his own custom ingredients and custom meals. What we want to avoid is a large database that is full of inaccurate data and double entries. There is more about it in point 11 in this post. I hope this helps Smile

Absolutely brilliant App!  With more advanced features still to come, well done Martina!!

Hi, I am interested to Keto Diet App.
However, I am fuent in French language.
Do you have any French Keto documents?
Please assist. Thanks and regards,

Hi Tshibanda, no, I'm afraid everything is in English only (at least for now).

Any chance this is coming to Windows 10 (pc) as a universal app? this would be amazing on it! From what I understand, its not hard to port from ipad.

Reply

Hi Marianne, yes, we have plans for that too - sometime next year. I'll announce it when we start working on it Smile It is a complex app and it's more difficult to make it for other devices - unfortunately, not all apps are easy to port. We have been working on an Android app for the last 3 months (KetoDiet Basic is almost done) and have a few more months to complete the fully featured KetoDiet app.

As a struggling epileptic and an Android user, I need your app. Thanks for all the tips on your blog.

Thank you Hannah, we are doing our best to finish it asap Smile

I just can't believe that some people complain about the extra packages when they get so many recipes for just a few bucks. I mean wha't the difference between this and a cookbook or even an ebook? Some people sell ebooks on their websites for tens of dollars just for a few recipes... I mean I bought some myself from a similar website and it wasn't worth half of what I paid. Keep up the great work, you do so much for us and I hope everyone realizes that!!!

Thank you for your kind words Megan!

Love this app and use it daily.  Thanks for making it.
We definitely need more measurement/serving size options when creating custom meals and ingredients a.s.a.p; oz or grams isn't enough.
Was thinking of getting a new iPad soon but was under the impression if that happens I would have to recreate all my custom ingredients/meals.  Is that correct?  If so is there any plans for a meal/ingredient import/ export feature?

Reply

Thank you Syrehn! Yes, we are planning to add custom serving sizes which you can then create yourself (slices, packets, etc.). You can get a new iPad and use all your meals on it as long as you have back ups of your old device. When you then restore it on your new device it will be there Smile

Reply

I can't believe it's only $11 for all those features and recipes.  I paid 10 times that for all the paleohacks and felt it was worth every penny.  You're sporting an ipad and complaining about spending an extra $5...might be time to pawn it, just saying

Is there a way to modify the ingredients of an app recipe and get a nutrition recalibration? For example, I'm doing the lemon chicken skewers tonight but only have chicken breasts rather than the called for chicken thighs. Maybe for now I'll just make a new custom meal.

Reply

Hi Carrye, yes, this is the best way to do it for now (create a custom meal). We do plan to add the "create similar" functionality to KetoDiet Meals too but that will be done after the universal app and will involve more work: e.g. some of the meals use what we internally call "nutritional factor" which is used in meals like bone broth where only part of the ingredients are included in the nutrition facts calculation as some may be wasted during the cooking process.

This Blog and Home page are by far, one of the best sites I've ever come across!  Love all the great info.  I'm chomping at the bit for the android version of the app!  Oh  yeah, I'll buy it!  Thanks for all you do! Best, SherriB

Great job!  Hope you make a fortune!!!
How can I see which recipe packages I purchased.  Think I bought one pack twice.
Thanks.

Reply

Thank you! If you go to the Meals tab -> tap on All Meals -> Packages - you will see which packages you have bought and which recipes are in each of the packages. The great thing about Apple is that they make sure you cannot buy any in-app twice. You can check that in your statement - they handle all the transactions.

This app is exactly what I am looking for, I can't wa it for the anDroid app! I am new to the keto diet. My whole family is on it including my 3 kids whose ages ranges from 9-17. We have been on the diet for about 6 weeks and we all have lost a about 15 lbs or more. This app would help keep us on track, and help us make the right choices and still have the variety that we all want. It would be worth the price,

Reply

Thank you so much Jennifer, I really appreciate that! And you haven't seen what we've been working on now, I think you'll love it. Just a couple more months Smile The Android app will have a new UI (so will the iOS app) and will sync with any iOS devices (just for a start).

Hi. I have a question. My 10 year old is in a keto diet for epilepsy.  Does this app support the ratios of a ketogenic diet?  He's on a 3.1 ratio, each meal 238 calories. 950 calories a day.  I have purchased the app and i am still learning how to best use it for him.  Our dietician uses a keto calculator which i don't have access too. I have to wait fir months fir any new recipe for him. He ate the same meal for 2 years! Yikes! I have switched dieticians 3 times. As with most things in life, they get dine when we do them our self. So of i can do most of the work/ calculating/ developing  recipes, she can approve them. Its a bit harder for us moms with special needs kiddos who have eating/ swallowing Dx's. We have to make the recipes pureed. We also use gram scales to weigh out each ingredient by the tenth of a gram. Its a very strict diet, for epilepsy.  Do you think this app would be helpful for this version of the diet? Thanks, its really a great app.

Reply

Hi Kimberly, yes, this app is designed to be used to the ketogenic diet but it uses % or macronutrients rather than ratios (it doesn't support specific ratios like 3:1). What you do is that you set a limit to the net carbs and then the app calculates the ideal protein range (based on weight and body fat) and then fat is eaten to satiety. There is no limit on calories / fat but you can see the daily macros and make sure he stays within the required limits. Here is a keto calculator that will give you an idea of his "ideal" macronutrients: http://ketodietapp.com/Blog/page/KetoDiet-Buddy
If you need some ideas for meals, don't forget to check the "Recipe" tab on this blog. You can set some preferences there (how many carbs it should have or use it to filter through allergy-friendly options). To find the meal that you can use for such a strict diet, you will have to go through the recipes to see detailed nutrition facts but I'm sure you will find some - there are over 200 of them. Hope this helps! Martina

How easy or complicated is this diet for people that don't like to cook?

Reply

Hi Rita, there are always easy options. In the app you can arrange the recipes based on your preferences such as time to prepare. On my blog, you can filter through the recipes - feel free to try it yourself (select "easy & few ingredients"): http://ketodietapp.com/Blog/category/Recipes

Depending on who's data you believe, Android probably has over 80% of the global market in smartphones...so why on earth do you not support Android? I find that odd to say the least.
www.businessinsider.com/iphone-v-android-market-share-2014-5

Reply

Hi Ian, it's not just the market share that plays role in it. We take everything into account and developing for Android is more complex because there are more devices to support. Also, based on previous experience (KetoDiet is no our first app), it's easier to develop for iOS. However, that doesn't mean we won't create the app for Android. In fact, we have plans to bring KetoDiet to Android this year.

Reply

I know you mentioned that the iPad doesn't have profiles, so the app doesn't. But I bought an iPad just so I could use this app, and my husband and I both want to do keto. I would really love to see profile switching in the app, or a way to track multiple users. I'm sure there are tons of couples in our same situation.

Reply

Hi Candace, software development takes time and we have a long list of features to add - we will do our best to support more users in the near future.

Reply

Market share is not what counts with app development so much, android is the Nokia of our era. The fact is that iOS users purchase more apps than android users even with its huge market share. Bottom line is iOS is much more viable for app developers plus, it's much easier to develope on. If you want quality apps go iOS.

Hi, I am a bodybuilder and i love the fact that your app seems to automatic calculate by bodyweight and max carb intake. I havent bought it yet because i was wondering if its possible to let the app calculate by max calorie intake instead of bodyweight Thx for your trouble. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Reply

Hi Dennis, the main focus of the app is not calorie consumption but it is carbohydrate intake / tracking. Although you can track all your macronutrients and even some micronutrients (electrolytes), it does not calculate your maximum calorie / fat intake. Carbs are recommended (there is a guide), protein is calculated based on your lean mass (a range, min and max based on activity level). Fat is eaten to satiety. You can keep an eye your calorie intake but it will not calculate your max intake (maybe in one of the future updates of KetoDiet Smile You can get the app, see if you like it or get a refund if it's not what you've expected.
Here is what can help you determine your macros more precisely: http://ketodietapp.com/Blog/page/KetoDiet-Buddy (our on-line keto calculator)

Amazing App and website! I am so bummed the app is not yet available for Android. Seriously considering an iPad purchase to support the switch to a Keto-Lifestyle with the help of your app. I've been Keto for a while now, but need better tracking capability and Macro meal planning than what I have been able to do for myself using MyFitnessPal, for example. So thank you for this! Maybe I will spring for the iPad and do the challenge ;)

I do really appreciate this app and probably recommend it 3 or 4 times a week on FB groups, which means it's seen by a lot of people.  The protein reminder is not helpful for me as I'm insulin resistant.
What would I like?  To be able to delete some of the heaps of identical items in the list of foods when searching for meat. I'm still measuring cooked food as in reality I only have a small portion of a pork belly roast or leg of lamb.   And I realise it's impossible to identify fat from protein in those cuts with a generic system.
What do I want to know?  How do I record actual saturated fats?   Like port fat or crackling.
I did mail you to say the app is hard to find on Apple and you replied, but you miss understood  what I thought was a helpful comment.  Instead I felt like a naughty child being told off...  But I still love this app.  It's the most honest weight recorder iv used.

Hi Maz, thank you for your kind words! Our database uses the USDA database which is very accurate and does contain a lot of different types of foods and I also keep adding more keto-friendly foods in every update.
I know what you mean, there are several items for all different kinds of meats (raw / with / without skin / fat / etc). They are not completely identical but are quite similar. You can always search by using multiple words (e.g. "lamb cooked"). I'll have a look at how your suggestion could work technically but it's not as simple as it may sound (e.g. I may be using "that" specific ingredient in one of the meals I post on the blog that can be added to the planner).
Saturated fats - I think this is a valid point as some people may want to be able to track more details. KetoDiet currently tracks all the macros plus electrolytes simply because that's what the majority of users expect. We don't want to add unnecessary complexity, so we will likely make tracking more details optional for those who will be interested in details.
I think we may have misunderstood each other - I've tried to find your email but I think you may have used a different one. Sorry if it sounded that way!
Thanks again for all the feedback!

Your app is great, as is the book too. I think the price is a bargain for all of the excellent content and I'm surprised some people don't realise this. Keep up the great work as it's much appreciated. By the way I did leave app feedback but it's never appeared. Thank you

Thank you Chris, I appreciate that! I think you may have used a promo code and that's why it doesn't appear. Apple doesn't allow reviews in such cases. Thanks anyway! Smile

Thank you so much for this app! I've been using MFP and then found yours. All I can say is that I'd never go back! Everything is so clear and the ingredient facts are accurate unlike those in MFP. Are the planner and tracking progress functions available on iPhone now? If not, any estimate as to when?

Hi Jackie, we post any updates here: ketodietapp.com/.../tagKetoDietAppNews&title=KetoDiet%20App%20News We planned to have this done in spring 2016 but it proved to be a lot more work than expected. We also had to work on a few unexpected projects (my new cookbook + new online tool for our challenges that will be launched this week). Our aim is to have the iPhone version done by summer Smile
