Ever since I gave up grains I missed my breakfast granola. I was determined to make a healthier low-carb and paleo-friendly alternative and created some of the best granola recipes, both for my upcoming book and for the KetoDiet app — have you tried my Chocolate Granola?

I use low-carb sweeteners but feel free to skip them or use more or less to taste. This low-carb granola goes great with full-fat yogurt, cream, almond milk or coconut milk and it's great when topped with fresh or frozen berries.

Looking for a quick travel-friendly snack? Put some granola in an airtight container and keep in your bag to have any time you feel hungry.

What Can I Use to Make Keto Granola?

 • You can use any nuts, seed or coconut to make the granola. Go easy on cashews and pistachios as they are relatively high in carbs.
 • Sweeteners can be used to taste so feel free to tweak the sweetness using different low-carb sweeteners if you like.
 • Ideally, use soaked & dehydrated nuts. You can learn how to activate nuts here.
 • One serving is about 1/2 cup of granola. Serve with almond milk, coconut milk, a dash of heavy whipping cream diluted with water, or full-fat yogurt.

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

Hi, I've made your pumpkin spice granola a few times now.  Love it with Kroger's Carbuster Vanilla Yogurt.  I made it again today but swapped out apple pie spice & 1 of the 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce fir the pumpkin spice & pumpkin.   So good!!!  Just had to share this.

Thank you so much Pamela, I'm glad you enjoyed, thanks for the tip!

Has anyone tried this using zucchini puree?   I have a ton of zucchini I need to use up!

You are reading my mind! We have an "apple" sauce recipe coming soon and it uses zucchini. I don't see why not 😉

You mean this recipe has been around for four years?  Where has it been all my life?!  Delicious by itself or with cream.  When I open the jar it smells just like oatmeal spice cookies, perfect for the coming fall.  Thank you so much, Martina!

Thank you so much Christy, I'm glad you enjoyed! 😊

Has anyone tried this with either collagen or gelatin (instead of egg)?

I think collagen is a good alternative but I haven't tried it - I'm not so sure about gelatin.

Hey Martina,
I am doing some research right now about the keto diet because I would like to start with it and just found your blog and really love it.
I normally eat in the morning a vanilla/almond granola with yoghurt and strawberries. My question is: Is there any way to make your granola a vanilla granola without the pumpkin?
Thank you for your answer

Yes, you can do that. You can skip the pumpkin pie spice and pumpkin puree - instead use more coconut oil or/ and another egg white. I hope this helps 😊

Hey Martina, I'm new to banting and was recommended your site..
Today, I tried this recipe (only omitting the coconut) but I think I put in a bit more pumpkin than expected😞 After 40 mins, I got a layer of nuts and pumpkin - nothing like your pics. I took it out the oven and let it cool for a bit and then broke it up into pieces. I have put it back in the oven to crisp up..
If one does make this recipe too wet, what should they do to still get the same output as yours? Also  are the metric measurements accurate? If I followed them exactly, will I get the same output as you? I worked with cups.. Thanks

Hi Naseera, the best way is to dry it out in the oven on low temperature for 20-30 minutes or until crispy. Although cups are fairly accurate for liquid ingredients, they  prove to be inaccurate for dry ingredients so that's why I always go by weight when using them in recipes like this or low-carb bread. I hope this helps!

Thanks Martina!
I'll work my way around it than. 😉
I just tried to add the recipe but it still says Kebabs! Sorry about that...
Maybe it works in the next update. I will let you know.

Thank you for letting me know, I'll have a look at it!

Hi Martina,
I can't seem to add this recipe to my custom meals in the planner. When I do it says Fulltime English Kebabs! Also, is it possible to make an option for liters and milliliters? I live in The Netherlands and are not familiar with oz and cups .... 😕 Apart from that, thanks a lot for your recipes, the app and all your hard work! 😃 I'm just learning to work with the app but I'm already so excited!

Hi Boxie, thank you so much! This was a glitch I knew about but we fixed it in the last update. Can you try it again - does it work as expected?
When it comes to litres and millilitres, they are derived from grams (just like cups oz). The standard unit is grams and it depends on whether a certain ingredient in the database includes other units like litres. We use a third-party database that includes thousands of foods and these units are not always listed. There will be some flexibility when you create custom meals (we are planning on adding "custom units" in the upcoming updates, after the universal app is done).

Hey! Quick question: I'm not a massive pumpkin fan (shocking I know!) - do you have any suggestions as to what I could sub the pumpkin puree with? Even if it means upping the quantity of another wet ingredient so it ends up the same consistency as your yummy granola? Thanks! x

Yes, I think you can substitute the pumpkin. If the mixture is too dry (I'd guess so), add a few tablespoons of water or coconut milk or coconut oil (or butter). I hope this helps!

Hi Martina
When I save the pumpkin spiced granola recipe into my custom meals, it transfers as the kebabs recipe.
When I search in my custome meals, the kebab meal shows up.... Not the granola recipe.
In the blog the granola is perfect and I can see the granola recipe(which is how I found it .... And it's bloody yum!!!).
But when I search for it in custom meals in the planner, the kebab recipe shows up.  This means I can't add it to my planner (well, I can if I type it all in as a custom meal 😊).
I'm hoping you can fix the techno glitch?

Thank you for letting me know Nicola! I just checked my iPad and I can't seem to reproduce this error but I'll have a look and fix it for the upcoming updates. It may help if you could tell me when you purchased the app? Thank you for your kind words 😊

Hi Martina
I purchased the app in early January 2016, when you were offering the special rate. I've just noticed in previous comments, Kathy was having the same issue.
Thanks

Thank you Nicola, I'll let my partner know to debug it - it appears correctly on my iPad. How weird!

Hi Martina!  I have to say a big WOW! to this recipe.  After a few weeks of doing Keto, we were yearning for a different breakfast that wasn't cooked or a shake, and I have to say this is absolutely delicious, so a big THANK YOU from my whole family! xx

Thank you Caryn, I'm glad you all like it! 😊

because of diverticulitis I ground all the nuts and seeds but durning baking the mixture does form small clumps one can chew and be assured not swallowing whole seeds etc.  does not alter the taste at all.

That reminds me of a "cereal" recipe I make sometimes - with ground almonds, coconut oil, cinnamon and some sweetener. It's delicious and tastes like the top of a crumble pie!

I will have to try this recipe.   My quick go to is to put nuts seeds and coconut  flakes in my bowl with some cinnamon and liquid stevia if I feel like it,  stir in a little coconut oil and add cold cream or almond milk.  The coconut oil hardens right away into chunks with the cold "milk" and I can have anytime I want,  quickly.   If you keep your ingredient in the freezer as I do,  it clumps up as soon as I add the oil.   Yum!

I do that sometimes with flaked coconut or almonds - it's a quick no-bake granola and tastes great with yogurt, cream or coconut milk 😊

I just made this recipe. Very yummy with coconut yoghurt! However, when trying to plan out my day in the app, could not for the life of me find this in my custom meals (or anywhere else). Any suggestions?

Thank you Carrye! If you go to the last tab (Integrated blog), search for "granola" and you will find it. You can then add the recipe to your custom meals (green button on top of the post). Hope this helps! 😊

Hi Martina,
thanks for your great webpage! By far my favorite site for keto recepies! I think I screwed up with that granola recipe, because I have bought whey powder and it seems that whey powder is not the same as whey protein powder. The main part in whey powder is carbs!!! at least it says that on the nutrition label. Luckily I did not put in the amount from your recipe. Maybe 2 tbsp....
Thanks for your work!
Tanja

Thank you Tanja! Yes, whey powder and whey protein powder (isolate) are different. Whey powder is indeed high in carbs.

Hi, Martina. Is it possible to skip the protein powder completely? Should I try to substitute it?

Hi Kristie, yes, you can skip it or maybe try to add one more egg white - it will result in a slightly different texture (holding together, you'll have to crumble the granola once baked). Or egg white powder may work well but that's just a thought - I haven't tried it 😊

Hi!  I'm new to your site, but love the recipes you make! Such a great change up from my usual 😊. Just wondering, with this recipe, what brand are your coconut flakes? Is there somewhere online I can go to buy them? Every brand I have found at my local grocer is laden with sugars and very high in carbs.. I'm not sure what good alternative to use if I can't access a good brand! Thanks 😊

Thank you Prue! I use Now Foods in most cases. I get them on Amazon and always get a large 500 g / 1 kg bag (al are pure coconut with no added sugar) - the best value for money 😊

I figured out how to delete the recipe. The box at the top of the granola recipe says a free recipe is included in the post for Full English Kebabs with the green button available to click to add the recipe. Strange!

Sorry about that Kathy. This will be fixed in the next update. Thanks for spotting that!

I made this a couple of weeks ago and love it. After three weeks of ketodieting I took the plunge to buy a secondhand iPad so I could get your app. When I tried to add this recipe to the custom list on the app, it added the English kebabs recipe instead - could you please fix this? Thanks!

Thank you Kathy, I really appreciate that! I just checked the code for Pumpkin Spiced Granola and it should be fine (tested it on my iPad). Can you try again just in case? Make sure it's added and search for "blog" in the Planner to get all blog meals OR search for the recipe name to see if it's there. Let me know if you still can't see it and I'll give it to my partner to have a look at it. Thanks! Martina

Thanks Martina, I checked that it was added (the box at the top of the page says that the English kebabs recipe has been added) and tried both searched. Couldn't fine the granola recipe anywhere. I'm using an iPad Mini. Is there any way to delete a recipe from the app so that I can try again - sorry but I'm a newbie to all things Apple and the app!

Perfect for breakfast! Thanks for sharing this recipe.

Thank you Michelle!

Love your chocolate granola and will have to try this one! I don't have any pumpkin puree but I'll get the one from Amazon 😊

Thanks Eliska 😊
