As you may know, we have been hard at work over the last few months. Firstly, I'm sorry if I don't manage to reply to your e-mails as quickly as I used to. It can take up to 5 days for me to reply to all your e-mails and comments on my blog. Here are some of the projects we have been working on:

  • I've finished my new book, The KetoDiet Cookbook and I've started working on another book
  • We're working with Dr Eugene Fine and his amazing team. Dr Fine is the leading expert in the effects of the ketogenic diet on cancer. We created a special build of our KetoDiet App that his team is using in their current study - more info is coming soon!
  • We have several ongoing projects on the KetoDiet App and our website (more information is in this post)

Due to the workload, we needed some help with our projects and were very fortunate to have found a new member for our team. I'm happy to welcome Ola at the KetoDiet App! Ola is a very talented designer and low-carb / fitness enthusiast who will also help me manage my social profiles: Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram and more!

The infographic below is Ola's work. I love infographics - they are great for explaining relatively complex subjects in simple terms. This one illustrates the basic facts of fat versus carb metabolism. Please, feel free to pin it and share it with your friends. Have any comments? Let us know! :-)

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

I wondered why I was feeling quite 'fresh'  after my 0 carbs marathon on Sunday with no muscle soreness on Monday or today, now I understand after seeing the lactic acid indicator. (No CHO loading beforehand, and I have never felt so good after a marathon!)

After reading this information:
ketogains.com/.../
I am asking what information/studies etc can be sited for excess protein turning to glucose, gluconeogenesis?
Best.....Nancy

That's an interesting post. I agree that people on a keto diet generally tend to under-consume, rather than over-consume protein. A small excess of protein won't kick you out of ketosis. However, I'm not convinced that this won't happen with a significant excess of protein (not easy to do that but I've seen some people eating 50+ grams more than they should) but I'll have a look at the studies.
On another note, too much protein is not beneficial because protein is not a particularly efficient fuel source: Ketogenic Nutrition and Exercise: Protein - "adequate"/ moderate amounts of protein is what we should be eating: KetoDiet Buddy - Easy Macro Calculator for the Ketogenic Diet

I have been in ketosis. On the strips it shows only a trace. I dodge as many carbs as possible I try to stay below 20. But tonight I checked n it was up to moderate. I've been sick taken only alkaseltzer for cold had 1 Adkins shake zero energy drink caffeine Diet Coke where did the carbs or keystones come from. Could it had been from Atkins low carb endulge that inate 3 days ago. It says only 1 or two net carbs. Help please and ty for giving us low carb eaters a place to run to.

Hi Sally, I'd avoid those products. Atkins products are known to be mislabeled (e.g. maltitol and sorbitol are counted as "zero" carbs while they in fact increase blood sugar).

Martina when can I anticipate the upgraded iPhone app.. I really need a better why to track everything and I'm so excited to purchase the app!

Thank you Kim! It should be by the end of this year (by December-January latest). It's a very complex app and we first need to release the universal version of the full KetoDiet app that already has the planner - then about a week or two after that we will add the "upgrade" option to the Basic app.

Wow! Nice graphic. I'm def going to go keto next week😊)

Just would like to know if the recipes on the app are the same as in the KetoDiet cookbook.thanks Btw, the app is great so far, a little learning on how to add my own foods. Debra

Thank you Debra! 80% of the 150 recipes in my new cookbook are unique. The 20% mostly represents some low-carb basics used in the recipes (mayo, mustard, keto buns and a few more).

Love the infographic, but just have one tiny critique: it's schizophrenia, not schizofrenia 😊.

Thanks for spotting that Beth! I'll correct it 😊

All looks very  impressive. But I to can't wait for the Android app

Thanks Catherine, it will be done! 😊

Hi Martina thanks so much for your post, it's so easy to understand the differences! I bookmarked it and shared it on facebook 😊

Thanks Heather!

Thanks for sharing this! I can't wait for the Android app! 😊

Thanks Stephanie! We will do our best to make the Android app asap 😊
