This single-serving, low carb cinnamon mug cake is just what you need when you crave something sweet. It takes less than five minutes and you'll need just a few ingredients. It's moist and is best served with a dollop of whipped cream, coconut cream or full-fat yogurt. It's not too sweet so if you prefer your keto mug cakes sweeter, add a few drops of stevia or a little more erythritol.

Tips & substitutions

If you want to make the recipe nut-free, use 1 tablespoon of coconut flour instead of 2 tablespoons of almond flour. If you don't have coconut flour, you can use 2 tablespoons of finely shredded desiccated coconut instead.

Instead of the listed sweeteners, you can try other healthy low-carb sweeteners from this list. The reason I'm using both Erythritol and stevia is to mask the aftertaste some of the sweeteners may have.

Does This Mug Cake Taste Eggy?

Although I like this combination and I do not think it tastes eggy, you may be more sensitive.

You can try the following; Use one egg, double all the dry ingredients and add 1/4 cup coconut milk, almond milk or cream. This mixture will make two mug cakes instead of one.

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

I needed to treat myself to something desserty with coffee today. This cinnamon mug cake was quick, easy & delicious! I prefer making single serve recipes so I'm not tempted to over-indulge. This hit the spot! Next time will try subbing pumpkin pie spices for the cinnamon. Thank you Martina & team!

Me too! I have no space in the freezer now so I always make single or double serve cakes 😊

This was delicious. I have been looking for a low carb apple mug cake and not having very good results. I decided to experiment and try adding shredded apples, vanilla,  and apple pie spice flavoring to this and the results were perfect, just what I was looking for.  It was soft and fluffy unlike the heavy dense wet pucks I have been ending up with. I know this wasn’t intended to be an apple cake, but still so grateful that you shared this recipe with us. I see it being the base to many other mug cakes.

Thank you Lana, I'm glad you enjoyed! You may want to try these - they are not mug cakes but they are just as good: Keto Mini Apple Pot Pies (or you could bake the filling separately and then swirl in this cinnamon mug cake recipe).
Another option would be to use our "apple" butter and leave it a bit more chunky for the mug cake: How To Make Low-Carb Apple Butter

I just made this. the ONLY thing i changed was i used pecan flour instead of almond. It was too thick.. so i had to add a tbl of water. i cooked it for 65 seconds and it was sooo good. the cinnamon was a bit much though. id reduce it next time.

I can see why you said there may have been too much cinnamon, I do like it a lot so I'd suggest using this always to your taste 😊 As for pecans, they may be more absorbent than almond flour. I'll have to test it to be sure. I'm glad you enjoyed it though!

I just quadrupled the recipe, used the “less eggy” instructions (total 2 eggs, 1/2 cup cream) and made mini muffins. I used a cookie scoop to portion them into an ungreased nonstick mini muffin pan  It made 24. I baked them 15 minutes at 325. After cooling about 5 minutes, I used a plastic knife to run around the edge and they popped right out. They rose beautifully and taste wonderful - especially split and buttered! Thank you for curbing my cravings!

Thank you so much for sharing this, if only I could see those cute mini muffins!  😊

This was great as I needed a quick dessert fix with I really had not much in hand. I did, however made some tweaks so might not be that much of a keto diet. Also, egg whites were a great replacement of a regular egg and I did add coconut milk and an extra almond tablespoon of almond flour. Came out great and was not eggy at all.

Those modifications still sound keto to me. I'm glad you enjoyed! 😊

I finally ordered some erythritol just so I could try this. My mouth is watering thinking about it! Can't wait.

I can't wait to hear your feedback!

I really wanted to like this because it is so easy and only 1 egg not 8 like other recipes.  Good news is that it doesn't taste like eggs. It is not over sweet and it is quick.  It is dry definitely needs the whipped cream.  I added a bit of pwd. swerve and the cinnamon to the whipped cream. Maybe there is a difference in definition of heaping.  I would try pretty much level tablespoons.  I used coconut oil, next time I may try butter for more flavor.  I also used pwd. swerve for the sugar.  Did I need more for that? I will keep at it.  Maybe adding my fr. vanilla MCT oil for flavor.
Thanks for the effort.

Thank you Sue! It may be the "heaping" measurement so it may be better yo double check on the kitchen scale. Thank you for your feedback!

This is really good. I added a little extra swerve and it may have made it a tad dry - but I didn’t care because it really tasted like a cinnamon cake. Lifesaver - will be a regular treat.

Thank you! I'd definitely serve this with a dollop of whipped cream! 😊

Not sure where I am going wrong but when I mixed it it was like dough! Perhaps ‘heaping’ tablespoon is subjective 😂

Yes, it could be that, you can double check with the values in grams and ounces by using a kitchen scale. We always weigh all dry ingredients, especially in baked recipes. Or perhaps you may have used a medium egg?

Absolutely the best Keto mug cake I've tried!
I beat the egg and only used half and added 2 tbsp. of almond milk and this wasn't eggy at all!
When it was done I sprinkled Brown Sugar Truvia on top and it melted in a bit then I spread a bit of cream cheese frosting I made with cream cheese and a splash of hwc and a tiny bit of swerve.
I just converted the ingredients so I can make a full size cake for guests this weekend.
Will become a staple in my house now! Thank you!!!

Michelle, thank you for your lovely feedback and great tips!

I used a cream cheese frosting with this.  Delicious.  Thank you.

Hello!
I just made these but I am not fond of desserts in a microwave so I baked them. They are a bit dry. Anything I can use to make them more cupcake like or moist? They are delicious and definitely used whip cream to add some “moist”.

I like to top mine with some whipped cream or low-carb frosting (like in this recipe: Low-Carb Red Velvet Mug Cake)
Other than that you could add a tablespoon of coconut oil, butter or cream cheese to the dough before cooking. I hope this helps!

Hi...just made a two serve recipe...tasted yum.. ...i used 1 egg and double the dry ingredients with only coconut flour and added coconut milk...as per your instructions. May I know the macros per serve? Thanks

Thank you Sonia, I'm glad you liked it! 😊 The best way to get the macros would be by using the "clone" feature in our app (KetoDiet Blog section) - you can then make any adjustments and see the changes in nutrition facts.

This totally hit the spot! The amount of sweetness was on par. I was afraid it would be too sweet or chemical tasting. I was also worried it would be grainy, gummy or tough. It was nothing of the sort! I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing is there is a little aftertaste. I used Swerve sweetener exclusively, no stevia. Also I read somewhere that thoroughly mixing the egg in the batter circumvents the eggy taste.
Thanks for posting!

Thank you for your lovely feedback!

I just made this mug cake and it was great as it is! This recipe is definitely a keeper! It wasn’t eggy at all. Thanks, Martina!

Great recipe!!! Hit the spot when I had a sweet tooth.

How many calories in this mug cake place ease?

Hi Christine, it's 333 calories (listed as kcal).

This is such an adorable looking mug cake.  So quick and easy to make plus the additional benefits of being healthy and full of delicious flavors provided by the cinnamon and the topping options.

I made this recipe this morning for breakfast.  MMM-MMM Good isn't words enough.  Great recipe.. Tastes just awesome.  Because it's a bit dry, I added cool whip (I didn't have whipped cream).  It did the trick!! Thanks so much for this recipe.  It's definitely a keeper!

Thank you Nola, I'm glad you liked it!

I tried this for the first time.  Taste was great but was a little dry.  What could be the problem?

I think this is this cake is drier than other mug cakes - I usually serve mine with yogurt or some whipped cream. If you prefer the mug cake more moist, try some of these: The Best Keto Brownie Mug Cake, Low-Carb Red Velvet Mug Cake or Keto Berry Mug Cake
I hope this helps! 😊

I also thought it was a little dry, but I added 2 tablespoons of half and half and that made it just perfect.  This is now one of my go-to breakfasts!

Simple and sweet! Looks great.
Personally, I love mug cakes. I have a bit of a sweet tooth and I'd rather not bake an entire batch of something, just in case it disappears. At least with a mug cake, I know I'm not going to eat too much.

Thank you Vince. I agree, I prefer making just a serving rather than a whole batch 😊

If the cake is "eggy" then the recipe requires 1/3 tsp vanilla per egg.
In every recipe the smell of the egg yolks can be cancelled by vanilla.
And even though this is a cinnamon mug cake the vanilla disappears too!
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip Gladys!
