This week I had the great opportunity to review an extraordinary book by Travis Christofferson, Tripping Over The Truth. It's currently one of the best-sellers in Oncology, Cancer and Diseases categories on Amazon.

Christofferson discusses how cancer can be managed and prevented using metabolic therapies and challenges the genetic causes of cancer. The early evidence is that the ketogenic diet is beneficial and can be used to help manage and treat cancer.

This book is well-written and covering everything from the history of cancer treatment, the theory of the restricted ketogenic diet, to practical tips and list of practitioners familiar with metabolic cancer therapies.

Christofferson's book stands out from other books discussing the metabolic theory of cancer. I found it easier and more fun to read, even without having deep knowledge of this very complicated subject. I love how the author explains complex science through stories of researchers and their findings.

Who is this book for? Everyone who is fighting cancer or knows someone with cancer, including medical professionals, should read this book.

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

Hi Martina,
There are some news about cancer as a metabolic disease. Follows the abstract of an article published this month that offers an alternative hypothesis, with stress inducing lactate as cause of cancer:
Carlos ETB Monteiro, “Stress as the Inductive Factor for Increased Lactate Production: The Evolutionary Path to Carcinogenesis”. Positive Health Online, Edition 241, October, 2017 at http://www.positivehealth.com/.../stress-inductive-factor...
Abstract
In the present paper is discussed about the recent evolution in the understanding of the role of lactate formation in promoting cancer.
On it is postulated the hypothesis that chronic stress is the major risk factor and inductor of the increased lactate production which might lead to the carcinogenic process. It also explains how stress develops lactate formation, what was discovered in 1925.
The current hypothesis support ketogenic diets for prevention and therapy for cancer. This inside the reasoning that while fats do not have appreciable effects on the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) or in lactate formation, high carbohydrate diets have significantly effects on both SNS and lactate formation.
At the end of the paper has a short explanation and link to a parallel article where is discussed cardiac glycosides (ex.: digitalis like digoxin) as the fundamental drugs for prevention and treatment of cancer.

I follow the Ketogenic diet to cure gluten allergy. It's work!
We had inflammations of the joints and abdomen bloating. Now, after a week of detoxication, we eliminated the water excess  from the body. Eat eggs, good fats, green salads, oatmeal, goat cheese and berries ...

I started a LCHF lifestyle 3 years ago after coming off medication to treat an autoimmune disease I have. The drugs reeked havoc with kidneys, liver and life in general. Despite this I continued running ultra marathons but my body finally put up its last protest, energy was returning when I recovered. The lifestyle change changed that! I regained lost energy and now after falling off  the wagon but am back and finding it easier with the helpKeto world out there. Energy is slowly starting to recover and my next marathon is in a week's time! Oh, and hoping it's going to help give me a clean bill of health when I go for my cancer check.

Hi,
I am fighting breast cancer for the third time. I am trying to get keto adapted and hope to get good results with it. Ive done a lot of research and would love to read this book. I do believe in all the benefits we can get from eating low carb and let the intelligence of the body step in and do what it is capable of and that to me is healing its self. Its empowering to see and hear that more people are getting aware of their own power over our wellbeing and health.

I have had great improvement in my symptoms of Me/CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) thanks to the ketogenic diet.
I was bedridden for most of the last 2 years, I'm not walking around my house daily, off pain meds and can sit at the table to eat with my family. Many great benefits beyond that too, my story is on my blog.
It's amazing what a difference one's diet can make! And how amazing that our natural, God-given foods are all that we need to heal our bodies.

The keto diet brought me relief from my nightly bloated tummy.  It was the best feeling in the world!

This book should be a very interesting read!!

So many health benefits! I've lost over 50 pounds and I'm off my cholesterol medication!

I've lost weight, lost inches, better mood, less joint pain, better balance, better stamina. Awesome!

I have:
lost weight.
Better mood
Sleep better
Reduced hunger
Less brain fog

What benefits have you experienced while following the ketogenic diet?
For me it's been higher energy levels, clarity of mind, no inflammation / water retention, lowered blood pressure, no digestive issues and to date 25+ pound weight loss.  Woot!  Woot!

I'm new into this but have done a lot of research into this and it looks like it's working.
Starting today/tomorrow needs a lot of shopping and throw stuff away from my cabinets.

I have been following restricted keto diet since Sept 2016 as alternative treatment for cancer after a lumpectomy. To keep the macro values(12gr of carbs/day) has been challenging mainly after I went back to work. I am definitely interested in this book.

I would very much like to enter the contest; would you be so kind as to explain how to enter an Email comment?  No matter where I clicked, no field appeared in which to type in the comment.  Thanx, njm

Hi Nicholas, I can see your comment - that's all you need to do to enter.

Weight loss and less brain fog.

I am new to eating keto.  Right now I'm retaining water, while my body adapts to using fat, instead of carbs/sugar.
If only we could get all our friends to read the book, on cancer!  I know so many in my neighbor hood with cancer, that it is scary.  Thyroid, stomach, liver, prostate, pancreas and more.  I hope the book helps a lot of people on the road to recovery!

Sounds like very good and useful information.

Clear smooth skin, the feeling of satiety after meals, delicious meals without bad feelings about myself, faster recovery after physical activities

I cannot wait to read this book and spread the word about cancer and diet...

Oh wow, this sounds like a fantastic book!

Great book!

Keto provides me with lower blood sugars, deeper sleep, prevention of disease and fat loss.  It fits my body perfectly. A doctor recommended it to me after we could not reduce my body fat after 1.5 years of hormonal work with exercise and specific food intake that was not Keto. I'm grateful Keto was brought into my life.

I have lost weight and my psoriasis is much better following keto woe. Martina's recipes are a great help and the facebook group is an amazing support as well.

Makes I look at breakfast cereals and wonder why I thought that was a healthy way to start the day.  Wait, I bought into the commercials, sigh.
Glad I know better now and I'll be reading this book!

Diet is everything - the secret of good health!  From diabetes to cancer and everything in between, Keto can help.
After only a couple of months, I am already seeing the benefits of eating Keto. I can think more clearly, have more energy and, wonder of wonders, have lost more than a stone.  Best of all, my pain levels have dramatically improved.  I've gone from taking paracetamol daily to almost never.
