Book Review: Tripping Over The Truth, The Metabolic Theory of Cancer

This week I had the great opportunity to review an extraordinary book by Travis Christofferson, Tripping Over The Truth. It's currently one of the best-sellers in Oncology, Cancer and Diseases categories on Amazon.

Christofferson discusses how cancer can be managed and prevented using metabolic therapies and challenges the genetic causes of cancer. The early evidence is that the ketogenic diet is beneficial and can be used to help manage and treat cancer.

This book is well-written and covering everything from the history of cancer treatment, the theory of the restricted ketogenic diet, to practical tips and list of practitioners familiar with metabolic cancer therapies.

Christofferson's book stands out from other books discussing the metabolic theory of cancer. I found it easier and more fun to read, even without having deep knowledge of this very complicated subject. I love how the author explains complex science through stories of researchers and their findings.

Who is this book for? Everyone who is fighting cancer or knows someone with cancer, including medical professionals, should read this book.

Hi,
I am fighting breast cancer for the third time. I am trying to get keto adapted and hope to get good results with it. Ive done a lot of research and would love to read this book. I do believe in all the benefits we can get from eating low carb and let the intelligence of the body step in and do what it is capable of and that to me is healing its self. Its empowering to see and hear that more people are getting aware of their own power over our wellbeing and health.

I have had great improvement in my symptoms of Me/CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) thanks to the ketogenic diet.
I was bedridden for most of the last 2 years, I'm not walking around my house daily, off pain meds and can sit at the table to eat with my family. Many great benefits beyond that too, my story is on my blog.
It's amazing what a difference one's diet can make! And how amazing that our natural, God-given foods are all that we need to heal our bodies.

What benefits have you experienced while following the ketogenic diet?
For me it's been higher energy levels, clarity of mind, no inflammation / water retention, lowered blood pressure, no digestive issues and to date 25+ pound weight loss.  Woot!  Woot!

I'm new into this but have done a lot of research into this and it looks like it's working.
Starting today/tomorrow needs a lot of shopping and throw stuff away from my cabinets.

I have been following restricted keto diet since Sept 2016 as alternative treatment for cancer after a lumpectomy. To keep the macro values(12gr of carbs/day) has been challenging mainly after I went back to work. I am definitely interested in this book.

I am new to eating keto.  Right now I'm retaining water, while my body adapts to using fat, instead of carbs/sugar.
If only we could get all our friends to read the book, on cancer!  I know so many in my neighbor hood with cancer, that it is scary.  Thyroid, stomach, liver, prostate, pancreas and more.  I hope the book helps a lot of people on the road to recovery!

Sounds like very good and useful information.

Keto provides me with lower blood sugars, deeper sleep, prevention of disease and fat loss.  It fits my body perfectly. A doctor recommended it to me after we could not reduce my body fat after 1.5 years of hormonal work with exercise and specific food intake that was not Keto. I'm grateful Keto was brought into my life.

Makes I look at breakfast cereals and wonder why I thought that was a healthy way to start the day.  Wait, I bought into the commercials, sigh.
Glad I know better now and I'll be reading this book!

Diet is everything - the secret of good health!  From diabetes to cancer and everything in between, Keto can help.
After only a couple of months, I am already seeing the benefits of eating Keto. I can think more clearly, have more energy and, wonder of wonders, have lost more than a stone.  Best of all, my pain levels have dramatically improved.  I've gone from taking paracetamol daily to almost never.

When there has been cancer in a family it is easy for other family members to live under its shadow. If this book offers a release from that fear it would be fantastic.

I started keto as a way to shed pounds but it turned into a health pursuit as i started learning more and more about the process. Recently, I shifted my focus again as my family discovered my mom has a cancer... I am now looking for ways to help her fight this demon with ketosis. Just found out about it yesterday and started to do agressive research...

I started the Ketogenic diet approximately 1 year ago. Since then, I've lost weight, my blood sugar is normal and I'm off the meds., my blood pressure is perfect, my cholesterol & triglycerides are normal, and my most recent auto immune blood work showed NO autoimmune disease. It's truly a miracle and I feel wonderful!!

Thanks for the contest and making me aware of this, I'll get the book anyway if I don't win, but it'd be fun. As to this: What benefits have you experienced while following the ketogenic diet? Me? well I feel really good and I'm getting to a healthy weight in a decent amount of time. I've already lost 4.5 lbs. in a month instead of just 1-1.5, and the calories are the same. I've probably lost inches too, my clothes all fit better, but I didn't measure until a few days ago. The best part is, I'm not hungry. Or maybe it's I don't care that I'm not eating sugar- bread etc. I've been trying for years and I feel finally I've found an answer, that's scientific and not just what's mainstream (which is not just unhealthy, it's detrimental)

Reply

I have lost weight ( actually lost fat!! Where I needed to) 40 pounds, 42+ inches in about 6 months, found it fairly easy to follow( although I made sure to plan ahead! Sooo many delicious and creamy recipes!!!), no feelings of deprivation, and energy...a total feeling of well being!!! Would recommend this diet/ lifestyle to everyone!! Have no intentions of going back to my previous carb addict lifestyle! And new wardrobe a definate added BONUS!!😀👍

Following a ketogenic diet has help with inflammation incredibly  for me but my husband who had metabolic syndrome is now off 3 of his meds he is no longer on any of them. All his levels dropped and good cholesterol is rising. We are excited.

Implementing a ketogenic diet has greatly benefitted my husband in his battle with stage IV kidney cancer.  I am convinced that the changes to his diet along with natural supplementation, are the reason his tumors are shrinking and disappearing as he refuses conventional treatments.

A good many of my relatives have had cancer.  I would love to read this book!

I have seen quite a few benefits since I've been on the diet. I have more energy, sleep better, can keep up with my kids better, I have lost weight, no mental fog, and my son who I'm breastfeeding use to spit up constantly and has stopped since starting keto. One of the best benefits so far.

Reply

While I'm sure the solution to all cancers is more complicated than just cutting the carbs, I wish this are was given more attention by researchers and the general public. Would love to read a book discussing the background and reasoning behind it all!

I have lost a few pounds, but I don't have much to lose.  I did lose 3" off my waist in three weeks!  The biggest benefits though are increased energy, lack of hunger/cravings between meals, no sugar cravings at all, improved skin (especially on my face), better muscle tone (visually), better sleep, easier periods -- an overall better feeling of health!

The biggest benefit I get from following a ketogenic diet is having more energy overall and in particular not getting the massive energy dips I get when I eat too many carbs. I also don't get heartburn and generally feel healthier.

The Ketogenic Diet has enabled me to be free of maladies that run in my family.  At almost 76 I am free of arthritis and diabetes has not reared its ugly head.  I have the energy of a 50 yr. old, am clear thinking and walk upright without the need of a cane or a walker.  I have been blessed to find this way of eating and plan to continue it as long as possible.
