With the growing popularity of BPC and similar fat-loaded recipes, I was excited to try a new product - Fat Coffee! Adding fat to coffee is not a new practise.  Butter tea, for example, is traditionally consumed in Tibet. Apart from yak butter, they also add pink Himalayan salt. Contrary to what many people believe, adding fat to coffee or tea won't make it greasy. Just use a shaker or a blender and it will be creamy and delicious.

The product I'm reviewing is a blend of high-quality fats that you can add to your tea or coffee. You can choose from:

  • 14 packets ($35 - that's $2.50 per packet)
  • 32 packets ($75 - that's $2.30 per packet )
  • 3 packets - just a taste ($7).

Shipping is free in the US.

What I like about Fat Coffee
  • clean, organic ingredients (see below)
  • easy storage and no need for refrigeration
  • great for travelling
  • no need to use a blender - just take your shaker with you
  • it's sating enough to be a meal so you can have it for breakfast
  • 4 delicious flavours (vanilla, mocha, pumpkin spice and a milk-free option). My personal favourite is Mocha!

Ingredients (Original vanilla blend): organic ghee, organic virgin coconut oil, MCT oil, whole powdered goat's milk, organic cocoa butter, organic ground vanilla bean powder.

Ingredients (Mocha blend): organic ghee, organic virgin coconut oil, MCT oil, whole powdered goat's milk, organic cocoa powder, organic cocoa butter. This one is my favourite!

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

Hello you have the ingredients for vanilla flavour and mocha around the wrong way.

Thanks for spotting that! 😊

OMG!  Where did you get that cute stainless steel sugar shaker?!

Thank you! I think it might have been Amazon but I'm not sure. I've had it for several years. This one is for cinnamon and I have another one for Erythritol 😊

I do this daily with my yerba mate....I call it my matte latte.  I use a combination of coconut oil and ghee. I'm allergic to coffee and have been doing this for 2 years. Sometimes I add the collagen but if I'm out I add grass fed whey protein. Occasionally in the winter months I'll add a couple tbsp of canned pumpkin for a seasonal pumpkin latte. I've never tried it with the egg yolks.....I love eggs and prefer to set them. But as I'm getting back into my paleo lower carb way of eating, I may give that a shot in my fats days.
Love your blog. It's fantastic.

I love mate but never thought of drinking it that way - I will have to give it a try! 😊

They are not shipping to Malaysia 😞

Hi, are these available in the UK?? I would love to order!! Thanks 😊

I don't think it is available in the UK but you might want to send them an email in case (when) they are planning to sell it in the UK.

wenchypoo - you can buy powdered mct from amazon, if the oil is an issue. I use it to make fat coffee at work.

I'm going to try some in my matcha tea as well as the coffee.  I think matcha lends itself very well to fat much more than herbal tea does.

I'll have to try that with matcha!

Have you ordered Phat Fudge?  It's similar to the ingredients in this product.  Check it out.

I'm going to try them both.

I am in the process of going dairy free. The hardest part is giving up cream in my esspresso. My solution has been to mix half a cup of coconut milk with a tablespoon of coconut butter. This makes a slightly sweet and very creamy liquid. I warm it first to melt the butter, but you don't have to, then I froth it as I do regular milk and add the esspresso. It works well.  I have even just added the coconut butter alone when I don't have the milk. The Tibetans drink butter tea. Adding coconut oil to tea is very satisfying when you are hungry and need the fat.
This product looks awesome for traveling when you might have trouble finding "good" oils.

I love coconut milk! I've been using Aroy-D in my coffee for over 3 years 😊

Martina, can you contact these folks and ask about caffeine?  This product looks like an answer to Hubby's fasting-at-work dilemma, but he has to watch caffeine.  There's no "contact me" spot on the website, and I'm not going to sign in just to ask a question.

I think that this can also be mixed with herbal tea so you can use it instead of coffee and black tea.

Hi!
I'm Ben, Chief Ninja at Ninja Goat Nutrition.
There is no caffeine in fatCoffee - nor is there actually coffee in it! The packets contain just the fats - ghee, coconut oil, MCT oil, powdered goat's milk, cocoa butter and vanilla bean. (The ingredients differ somewhat in the Mocha, Pumpkin Spice and Milk Free versions, but none have coffee in them.)

Contrary to what many people believe, adding fat to coffee or tea won't make it greasy. Just use a shaker or a blender and it will be creamy and delicious.
Just make sure it isn't MCT oil or almond oil--that stuff floats to the top and stays there, no matter what temp your tea is (or water, for that matter).  How do I know?  I do it every morning.  I've even made my own version of the "fat water" product Dave Asprey invented by adding MCT oil to purified water--looks disgusting, but works just the same.
So why did I use MCT and almond oil, and not butter?  I'm allergic to dairy.  Ghee bothers me too.

That's interesting because I sometimes use MCT oil (haven't tried almond oil) and it seems to blend in well with a nice froth on top. How about cocoa butter? That might be fine if you can't eat dairy...
