New KetoDiet Update, Android App and Universal iOS App

New Update

As many of you know, I'll be announcing the winners of the 90-Day Keto Weight Loss Challenge in the next couple of days. Before I do that, I'd like to give you some info on the next update of the KetoDiet App which is currently awaiting approval at the AppStore! Here is what you will see in the upcoming update.

New recipes have been added, bringing the total number to 240. As always, you'll be getting even more free recipes via our integrated blog. To see all new recipes, simply type "new" in the search box when you update to the new version - you'll find: Chocolate Keto Oatmeal and Cheesy Jalapeno Fat Bombs.

Minor adjustments and fixes: Recipe adjustments and new minor improvements (e.g. adding ⅛ to ingredient amounts for your custom meals), search improvements and several other enhancements.

I've also been working on my second cookbook for the last few months and it's been quite challenging to keep up with everything on my blog and working on the app at the same time. We'll soon add even more recipes and features so stay tuned!

You can preorder my first cookbook on Amazon and other stores. It's my first printed cookbook but will also be available in electronic form :-)

KetoDiet App for Android

For those who have been waiting for the Android version of KetoDiet, I've got some amazing news!

With the so needed help of a new team member, we have been working on bringing the App to Android devices. It's still early days and I will keep you updated once we have a better understanding of timelines.

What you see on the photo is just a prototype of the Meals tab.

Universal iOS App

Most of you know that we have been working on a universal iOS App. Our users have now been using either KetoDiet App for the iPad or KetoDiet Basic for the iPhone. You can read more about our apps, FAQs and plans here - see "2. Why is KetoDiet not the same on the iPad and iPhone? Why have two different apps?".

Here is what will happen with the universal iOS App:

  1. We will convert the current KetoDiet iPad app to a universal app that will work on the iPad and the iPhone.
  2. We will offer an option to those who have the KetoDiet Basic iPhone app to upgrade to the fully-featured universal app. Although we can't merge the two existing apps (that is technically not possible), we will offer feature parity for users that upgrade their Basic version.
  3. We will add a multi-user feature so that multiple people can share the app on a single device. Adding this feature has been challenging from technical point of view because iPad is fundamentally a single-user device.
  4. Complete UI redesign. We have been working on a brand new user interface that will make tracking, planning, etc even easier. I'll share some screenshots soon!
  5. We will be adding new features in frequent updates. When the universal app is live, we will start adding even more features driven by your feedback. You can learn about some of the popular requests at the end of this post: KetoDiet App FAQ. Have any suggestions or feedback? Please, leave a comment!
  6. We will also run a beta-testing program for the new universal KetoDiet app to collect user feedback. If you'd like to join, please, let us know. It will be a couple of months before we start beta-testing so keep that in mind.

Please, keep in mind that beta testing for the iOS universal app will be available in about 2 months while the Android version is about 6 months away.

The photo below represents one of our brainstorming meetings :-)

I purchased the KetoDietApp(Basic) for my iPhone in hopes that I was going to be able to track my Keto lifestyle/diet (carb/protein/fat intake), and didn't realize it didn't have that capability, so I look forward to your upgrade.
I'm very eager, as I'm not understanding why the Keto diet is not working for me now...I lost 15 lbs. on a Keto diet 4 years ago, which, interestingly enough was fashioned to me by an MD, who NEVER addressed "healthy fats" or High Fat as part of my keto diet. My keto diet was designed based on test results he ran on me, including metabolic function, blood tests, etc. and I was told to eat 60 grams of lean protein (though I often ate high fat protein as well) and less than 40 grams of carbohydrates/day. Like I said, I easily lost 15 lbs., and felt great.
Unfortunately, after some life stressors and a move, and being diagnosed with anemia, I went on some medications that caused me to gain all the weight back. Not good! So, I researched alternative ways to keep myself healthy and less-stressed. For the past 2 years, I've been off of prescription medications, exercise regularly, eat healthy, nutritionally balanced meals, take vitamin supplements and one of the highest strains/cultures available in a Probiotic every day.
So, I started back to the Keto lifestyle/diet to lose that 15 lbs. I'm doing everything the same that I did before when I lost the 15 lbs., and funny enough, now I'm doing it with improvements, almost all organic, non-GMO foods, not using anything with chemical preservatives, etc., so I'm dumbfounded as to why I'm not progressing? It is so extremely frustrating, so I came across several websites, including yours that are calling the Keto diet, "High Fat-Moderate Protein-Low Carb," or LCHF, and thought, hmmm, that's interesting, the doctor that initially put me on the Keto diet, 4 years ago, didn't mention healthy fats in my meal plan at all, and I still lost weight...but I'm not losing weight this time around with his formula, so, I figured I would try this new information, and start incorporating more healthy fats, yet still keeping my calorie count in check and all other "macros" in line...and after months and months and months, I lose about 5 lbs. and that's it...plateau, plateau, plateau. I've tried everything! I started incorporating more strength training, in addition to my yoga and mild cardio sessions, and that didn't do anything except make me sore and tired, and yes, I did this for more than 6 months. I'm an intelligent person, with perfectionist tendencies, and very self-disciplined, so this has nothing to do with "mistakes" or "cheat days," or not tracking my macros correctly...
I'm at the age that my mother and many female relatives entered menopause, so I believe it may be my age/hormone fluctuations, but it is extremely frustrating, and trying to stay in the first stages of Keto (the weight loss stage, not maintenance stage) is very expensive! I've read so many articles on how to tweak my routine/formula, that my head is ready to explode with all of the contradicting information out there, especially for women, whose hormones seem to work against us!
Long story, short, even though I know I'm eating the way that is supposed to lead to weight loss, I thought your app would help me keep track exactly what I'm taking in, just in case I'm missing something. The only other thing I can think of at this point is to go to a medical specialist that specializes in female hormones to see if my body is working against me in some way, because this is beyond frustrating and I refuse to spend more money on bigger size clothing when I'm completely willing and capable of losing this weight!

Thank you for sharing Barbara, we're doing our best to finish it as soon as we can. It's a lot of work but we are now getting close to iOS beta testing - Android will follow soon after. Weight loss plateaus may be really frustrating and what may help is expert advice from a health professional with experience in low-carb diets and a custom diet plan. I linked to a resource page in this post: ketodietapp.com/.../how-to-low-carb-15-common-weight-loss-mistakes (My post on weight loss plateaus)

Good afternoon. I've been keto'ing for two months now and I've lost approx 25 lbs, and this is with being immobile (broken foot).
I currently use MFP (myfitnesspal) on my iPhone and iPad mini 2. It's getting tedious customers mining this for a LCHF way of life.
I would be very interested in being part of your beta testing for the IOS platform, and can even help with feedback on syncing between IOS devices, if that is in the works.
Thank you very much,
Carye Sellito

Hello,
Thank god I found you when I did. I had been doing low carb for a few months when I discovered Keto and your app. Ive gone from 14 stone to 9 stone 6lbs in 8 Months! Im now at the most difficult stage trying to work out how to maintain, what my carb levels are and the fear of carbs etc etc
I'm VERY excited about the full version of the app coming to Android (I hate iphones but I even considered getting one just for your app) Its just what I need after spending hours on My Fitness Plan which is getting tedious to keep track. I would be absolutely delighted to be involved in the beta testing.
In the meanwhile the cookbook is on route, i'm following your free ebooks till then. Clinging to the rock face till its out, cant wait.
Thanks for you're awesomeness!

Hello,
I am trying to start the Keto diet and am having a really hard time getting started. I am hoping to find an app that will suggest a keto friendly menu based on my macros without including non-keto foods. I will be using the app on an Android if you allow me to be part of your BETA.
Thank you =)

Hi Martina.  I was trying to find information on when the universal app would be released and found this post.  It looks like there hasn't been any comments lately... could you give an update on when it might be available?  This might save me from having to buy an iPad just for your app!  hahaha... awesome work!!

Thank you so much Ben! I think it's probably the most common question Smile I don't have a precise date because - as we realised - software development is unpredictable and there are always unexpected issues to deal with. Additionally, we have been working on several other projects (the KetoDiet Challenges, new cookbooks, etc). My guess would be summertime and if everything goes well, we will be ready for beta testing by then.

I LOVE your site and am looking forward to getting your cookbook.  I read Volek and Phinney's book (not the one for athletes) and became convinced this is the way I need to eat.  The descriptions of Metabolic Syndrome and insulin resistance are 100% me.  I have been on a keto diet for about 3 months now.  Weight loss has stalled (I have at least 50 pounds to go, after an initial loss of  20) so will be watching the macros much more closely.
One of the first things I noticed was my mood, while not depressed before adopting LCHF, was more cheerful, and I was more energetic.  Also, acid reflux has not occurred since. It had become so frequent that I was keeping tablets next to my bed.
I am a total Android user and I would love to be a tester for the Android app when that is ready.

I totally agree - I persuaded my mom to go gluten-free and reduce carbs (not keto but still low-carb) and after suffering from acid reflux for 15 years and taking PPIs almost every day, she is no off meds!

Hope the Android version is coming along as fast as possible. I almost bought an iPhone this time around, just so I could use the app, but in the end, decided I couldn't justify switching from Android, when in every other way, I think the Android is better than the iPhone.
Kindle uses a Fire OS 3.0 operating system. Will Kindle be compatible with either the iPhone version or the Android version? Trust me, I know very, very little about the magic which is operating systems, so I don't even know is this is a rational question. What I am asking is can I use the Keto App on a Kindle.

Reply

Thank you Sharon! I really appreciate that and we will do our best to release it as soon as we can. It is a lot of work because the code cannot be just "transferred" from iOS to Android in this case and we have also been working on a brand new UI so it's a complete rewrite. Me and my partner have been working on a universal iOS App which will be done first and should be available for beta testing in about a month. Our colleague has been working on the Android app in the meantime. Yes, once the app is done, it will work on Kindle Fire OS 3 too but probably not in the first release.  It will also sync with other devices including the iPhone/ iPad. If you send me an email, I can add you to the list of our beta testers if you like?
