Hi everybody,

we've been hard at work on another big update. It took us longer than expected but we added many features mostly based on YOUR feedback! The new version will be available to download in a couple of weeks. As always, all updates are free. Apart from the new clean iOS7 look, here are some of the features we've added:

iPhone & iPad

1) Several recipe adjustments including new fabulous photos and improvements in the Meals section (e.g. number of servings will always displayed also next to the ingredients). New Big Update of KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic!
2) New recipes, most of them very low in carbs (5 included in the Starter package, 6 recipes added to existing optional packages). To see all new recipes, simply type "new" in the search box when you update to the new version. New Big Update of KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic!
3) New improved look for the shopping basket. New Big Update of KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic! 4) Several updates to KetoDiet Guide: easy access to must-read chapters, new chapter for Very low-carb diets and several additions to the FAQ section, including more information on keto-friendly vegetarian and vegan diets and more. New Big Update of KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic! 5) Video tutorial: a link to our 7-minute video tutorial has been added to the help section for easy access. You can also watch the tutorial here.

iPad only

6) Several enhancements for the Planner. You will now be able to specify nutrition data in grams and oz in any amounts (e.g. 3 oz, 50 grams) when creating custom meals and custom ingredients. Also, the ranges have been extended, so it's easy to add supplements for electrolytes. New Big Update of KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic! 7) New restaurant chains added (Perkins, US and Poncho, UK). As before, meals are sorted by their net carbs content.

8) New icons for Quick meals to easily preview your day. New Big Update of KetoDiet and KetoDiet Basic!

Other planned features

We frequently get requests to make our fully-featured iPad app available on the iPhone with everything being synced between the two devices. We would like to inform you that this is exactly what we have been working on over the last few months. Together with several other features, it's now our top priority to make the KetoDiet app universal.

Other features coming soon:

  • Filtering of meals based on special dietary requirements (dairy-free, nut-free, etc.).
  • Improvements to the shopping basket, exporting and e-mailing the shopping list for easy access from anywhere.
  • Exporting your Progress data (via e-mail and print-friendly).
  • More delicious low-carb recipes, restaurant chains (based on your requests) and several additions to the KetoDiet Guide.

Are there any features you would like to see in a future update? If so, let us know by leaving a comment! :-)

I changed the way I ate in 2011, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. I had no energy, and I found it more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

That’s when I decided to quit sugar, grains, and processed foods, and to start following a whole-foods-based ketogenic approach to food.

Is there a way to edit a custom meal once it has been saved?

Hi Elizabeth, yes, you can do it in the Planner tab -> tap on Custom and find the meal you want to edit -> tap on the image/icon (it has a pan tool icon) -> tap on "edit custom meal" (green button) and after you edit it, tap "save". If you edit the custom meal this way, it will affect all previous entries in the Planner that will update. If you only want the changes to be applied in future entries, tap to "create similar" instead. Hope the helps!

{Superb Webpage, Maintain the beneficial work. Thank you so much.|

Is the app will be for Android any time?

Hi Dror, we have more platforms in our todo list but it will take some time. Our goal is to make it available for everyone, not just Apple users 😊

Is there a way to put a fasting day into the plan other then putting the water intake only?
Thank you nice app.,
Cindy

Hi Cindy, thank you for your kind words! We don't currently have any special feature for fasting but we may do something in the future updates - there is loads of work for this year 😊 For now, I think you can try to create a custom meal called "fasting" just to quickly see which days you plan fasting for. In the future updates, we may do something more clever that will also display your fasting days in the progress chart.

Today is my first day using the app. When we make a custom meal, is there any way to add it in the meal searchables? Such as breakfast category, ingredient search, etc? Also, would you consider a category for cooking method? Such as oven, stove top, fridge? In the hot weather I'm not too keen on using the oven, so it would be nice to not be distracted by the delicious oven baked meals, til I am ready for them. ;). But of the two requests, custom meal searchability is more important to me.

Hi Anndelise,
Thank you for your feedback! You can now search for all meals (KetoDiet, custom meals, simple snacks and restaurant meals) based on their name or ingredients used - it will show all the results.
We will see what we can do with classifying custom meals but we will also try to keep it as simple as possible without adding too much complexity while adding more features, so we often have to make compromises.
When it comes to categories of KetoDiet meals, we plan to extend the categories by dietary limitations (dairy-free, egg-free, vegetarian, etc.) and we will also consider cooking methods. I will discuss this with my partner, who is the "technical part" of our team and see what we can do.
We are now working on yet another update and I will announce details on my blog soon.
Best regards,
Martina

IPhone and iPad? Really?  Not everyone owns one.  Please make available for all phone users.  Love this blog btw.  Thank you!

Hi Soni, thank you! I understand your disappointment. However, it took more than a year to develop KetoDiet and the reason we made it first for the iPad / iPhone is that it's a lot more developer-friendly compared to some other platforms. We do have plans to make it available for everyone but this will take some time. In any case, I'll keep you updated on my blog / social profiles.

Hi.  Will there be a bar code scanner at some stage?

Hi Wendy,
we do have plans for many new features, especially making it even easier to create / recreate meals. However, I haven't looked into the technical details of bar scanning and can't tell you if we can do it for sure. One complication could be that the calculation of net carbs is not the same in all countries (e.g. USA vs UK) - details here: All You Need to Know About Carbs on a Low-Carb Ketogenic Diet
We are working on new features and I will keep you updated!

This all looks amazing, but unfortunately I don't have an iphone or ipad 😞 I bought your ebook and I love it, but will it also be updated with the new recipes?

Hi Jenny, thank you so much! We will do our best to make it available for all platforms. I don't want to give any details right now but everyone will eventually be able to use all the features 😊
When it comes to the Kindle book, it will only be updated with the new chapters, photos and some minor fixes. I'd love to include the new recipes but we have already reached a size limit at which we wouldn't literally make any money. This is due to the photos - they just take space and it costs us quite a bit of money. Amazon takes almost 80% of the money we make from the book and this percentage increases with size. I'm planning to save the new recipes and some more for another book which will only contain recipes and kitchen tips (no guide). This may take some time but I will try to have it done soon - in a few months.

Are you planning to put your app on the android market? That would be great!!!

Hi Vivian, thanks - we do have plans for it. We will make KetoDiet for additional platforms but this will take some time. For now, our priority is to add many new features to our iPhone and iPad apps. Please, follow our blog for updates.

Hi, recently got the app and loving it!! Only a few days in though so maybe I haven't got my head around it all. What I wondered in the planner mode is there a way of seeing my day spread out on the full page without the  brown edit/Add/percentage part?  My day planner gets filled up and is very difficult to view once there's several items overlapping. Will be great when it's fully integrated with the iPhone....but my next question is ..... we only have 1 iTunes account and several family devices.... Will each app run independently so both my hubby and I can have separate planners on our own devices but through the same app purchased?  Cheers and thanks again!!

Hi Charmian, thank you for your feedback! Provided you have more family devices, you and your hubby will be able to use the same purchased app independently as long as you DON'T keep them in sync. If you do, the planners will merge any changes which you wouldn't want in your case. When this feature is out, I'll provide more details. When it comes to the planner, right now you can switch to "edit" mode and scroll up and down to see the meals on the right side. We are aware of the overlapping and are still trying to optimise it and may do something additional in the future updates. With more features added, it may add complexity which we want to avoid. Once we find the best way to do it, we will add it. Thanks again!

Love it! I can't wait for the new update, thanks!

Love it! The universal app is exactly what I had on mind. Thanks in advance 😊

You are the best! Thank you so much for all your work, I wouldn't be able to lose weight without your app (over 50 pounds since october 2013!!). I love all the new features and can't wait for all the new recipes 😊

Thank you Evelyn! I'm so glad my app has helped. Good luck with your diet!

Specifying data in the custom meals would be terrific! I had lapsed horribly at the end of last year and I credit this app for getting me back on track - less 25 pounds. I'm recommending it to all who will listen!
Will the very low carb chapter include "fat fasting"?
Thank you again for all your work!

Thank you Pippa! Thats great to hear - I'm glad you find it useful 😊
Fat fasting (HFF) is now included in the chapter "What if I cannot lose weight". It contains some general information but I will add a lot more about high fat fasting (plus practical examples of foods) in the future updates but not the upcoming one.
Thanks for your kind words and your feedback!

Love the apps. Cannot wait to be able to see recipes and enter details on my iPhone!!  One suggestion, maybe the possibility of adding your articles/ blog posts into a favourite folder or being able to mark them as favourites? I know I go back to re-read the same few all the time. It would be a time saver 😊

Thank you Ann-Marie! Excellent point, I'll add it in our todo list - "add favourites to the integrated blog". Thanks! 😊

Awesome! I'm probably asking too much here but, how about the ability to edit the ingredients lists on the recipes? Say for eg. I log the Capri salad for lunch and I don't have olives on hand ... The ability to be able to cross it off would be great. Sometimes we don't always have all the ingredients or we want to add something else in place of an ingredient. Instead of having to re-write up a recipe it would be easier to have a checklist. Also being able to edit recipes and having the choice as to whether you want it to be edited for all or for just that day. Thanks for listening  😊

Thank you for your feedback - anything you can think of, just let me know and I will always tell you whether it's possible and when. We will definitely do this.
However, it's fairly complicated to edit the recipes directly (there are technical difficulties and risks related to such change), but we will add what we currently have for the blog meals and for custom meals, which is "create similar" recipe from an existing one. This way you will be able to edit a recipe in any way you like. It will be included in one of our future releases and I will put it on top of our todo list 😊

You're the best 😊 !!

I got your app a year ago and can't believe how much work you have done so far. I know this is the best app I've ever bought. You didn't create just "some app" but you are honest about what you do. You actually live the lowcarb life and it shows in your great work!
Oh and the features... I'd love to track my exercise but I've already asked about this a while ago and I know you are planning to do that. Other than that, I don't think there is anything else I'd need 😊

Thank you so much Maria! I'll do my best to finish it asap! "Exercise" is also on our list but first we have to finish the iPhone sync 😊

Can't wait for the universal app, can't wait to have the planner on my iPhone! Thank you so much of all the hard work!

Thank you Liz! I really appreciate your kind words 😊

Looking forward to the updates. Please check under quick>blueberries, fresh. If calculating individual berries, the amount of carbs, etc. doesn't seem correct. Please double check. Thank you!
Jen

Thank you for your feedback Jen! This is a mistake on the side of the USDA - they sometimes have these minor errors (like 1 tsp instead of tbsp or inaccurate values for amounts). Luckily, their database is one of the most reliable when it comes to macronutrient and micronutrient counts. The best thing to do is to add the blueberries by "cups", grams and ounces (grams and ounces are always the most reliable measure).

This all sounds fabulous - how do you get updates?

Hi Fiona, once it's approved by the AppStore (10-14 days), you will get a notification 😊
